Any advice for buying a new jeep?

Going with my sister tomorrow to try and trade her liberty for a new JK.

She will be doing all street driving.

Go to truecar.com and build it there. You don't have to use the 3 dealers they recommend, but you can use that as a reference point as to the price you can get it elsewhere if you use someone different. If you do want to use them, you can get it at a good price I think. Seeing as she's going to be doing street driving, a Sport is probably more than enough Jeep for her, unless she wants some other extras and then a Sahara may be worth looking at depending on her price range. That's just my .02. Good luck either way!

Thanks. I'm pushing her towards the Sahara so she has the "extras".

This will be fun since it's not my money being spent.

Be sure to check out all the available options in the "Sport S" trim package. You can damn near probably match what a Sahara would have and save some money. Side air bags, leather seats, etc...

Thanks. Didn't realize that.

This forum is great. Can't work on my tj because of the weather so I spend most of my free time here.

I agree. Not many things you need in a Sahara unless she wants matching fenders.

True. If she is stuck on matching colored fenders and/or matching colored hardtop then a Sahara is the way to go. Other than that, I'm almost certain that you can add enough features to the Sport S to nearly equal what a Sahara has to offer.

Just did a build and price on the Sport S. Biggest difference were the fenders and the sticker was $3k less.

Thanks for the advice.

Yep. She tells me what looks good to her then I fill in the equipment. Luckily price isn't too big of an issue.

Still don't have a JK bought yet. Took her to the dealer in Columbia, MO. Told them what she wanted and they didn't have it. Said they would look around and call her.

That was January 26 and still haven't heard from them. Guess they don't want her business.

Where are you from. I bought from Century Dodge in Wentzville.

Wentzville's Century Dodge Chrysler Jeep | New & Used Car Dealer | Serving St. Louis, O'Fallon & St. Peters

I have bought several vehicles from there.

When I was shopping for mine I called up the internet/fleet sales dept and gave them my list of options and a few acceptable configurations. Most every dealership either searched wide area right then, or got back to me within a couple of hours. That was not the case when I went in and sat down with a floor salesperson...they seem to drag their feet and I never really received an answer.
In the end however, I did end up ordering mine because of the color and list of options.

Also if she has USAA in any form of account, they have a car buying service...base line of 1% below invoice max price...and a used car trade value in service for that end of the deal too.

If tight trails aren't a concern, please consider the four door. Not as awesome, not as pure, but I made the mistake of getting the two door and a year later was trading it in. I loved that 2 door, don't get me wrong, but it just didn't work for a lot of things.

If $ isn't a big issue, consider a Rubi! When you look at the low interest rates, the resale value, and the fact that you can get close to $3k off of MSRP on a Rubi vs. about $1k on a base sport, there is a lot to like. The "real" cost difference isn't nearly as bad as the sticker makes it seem.

I'm in Eureka, MO and she is in Columbia, MO. I've been looking online and have found a couple at South County Dodge for her to look at.

I'll check Century this afternoon. Thanks!

You would think that a salesman would be all over selling a new Jeep in this economy.

Just make sure it comes with 3.73 rear and limited slip. Even if you don't offroad, it's better for resale.....have fun!

If she has specific wants you may be better off ordering one for her. Wait time is 4-8 weeks but you get exactly what you want.
