Any FJ Owners Switch Over to a Wrangler Unlimited?

I just took a 2011 Wrangler Unlimited for a test drive yesterday. Not sure about the power, or should I say lack of power in the Wrangler. My FJ definitely has more get up and go. There were some features I did like however in the Wrangler. Just curious if there are any FJ Cruiser to Jeep Wrangler Converts out there? A little side note. I traded my 2006 Hummer H3 in on an FJ because I was tired of the lack of power in the H3. Am I gonna be disappointed in the Jeep's lack of get up and go juice as well? I know this is a Jeep forum so don't beat me up too much for owning a Hummer and then a Toyota. I did own 5 Wranglers prior to my H3 so there is some brand loyalty. Thanks for everyone's replies/opinions in advance.

Funny you should ask. My friend just towed a guy's broke down FJ and said he was gonna get rid of it and buy a new Wrangler.

The 2012 Wrangler is getting a new engine with more power than your FJ and a much improved auto transmission (if you're looking for an auto). You can order a 2012 now. Problem solved.

"Power" etc is pretty much a subject impression.

My 345HP Ram Hemi has impressive power/accerlation. Inquire at the gas pump.

My Wrangler with one TON less weight and 2 less cylinders seems to get me down the road faster than legal speeds, and is so much kinder to my gas fund.

Just filled up the Ram today for the first time this YEAR since I've nearly exclusively driven the Jeep. Wasn't empty and it took $71 to fill. Jeep yesterday was nearly empty and it took $32 to fill. I like that kind of power.

If all you care about is the power then you wont be that impressed. But it you care about off road fun with the top off and doors off then fun will win.

Would not take a FJ over a Wrangler. Not even two for one.

You won't find many FJ fans on Jeep forums but either way mine was a very capable, reliable vehicle.....and I traded it away for my wrangler.

Why is this not the answer? If that solves the power issue for you, what else is required?

Nope. I loved my FJ but I've really enjoyed my Jeep. It is hard to compare them though. I think of the FJ like a Jeep built by Lexus and the wrangler well.... it's built by Chrysler. FWIW, We won't be getting another FJ but we'll certainly buy another Wrangler.

I've driven a few FJ's, and they are a nice option. I wasn't really impressed with it, but I can also say that it did have a good smooth ride. That being said, I would easily go for a Nissan Xterra over an FJ. Just a matter of preference... Especially when it comes to the engine and looks. I am partial the the Wrangler because its a unique experience... No one makes a vehicle that is really comparable.... Top off, doors off, go just about anywhere, easy to work on, and just plain fun....

I haven't owned any of these, my '12 Rubicon is ordered.... and it can't be any worse than the big V8 hog I have in my Silverado... Thats the primary reason I am trading.

I call bs. You filled a empty jeep for $32. Gas averages $3.50/gallon now. So you only have a 10 gallon tank?

..sorry, dug out the receipt, actually it was 11.1 gallons, which the gauge being below 1/4 seemed to be 'nearly empty'....and the bill was $38.62 including the Safeway .20 discount for buying other stuff there.

My mistake....but the 19.83 gallons for the Ram @ $72 (with only .03 discount) was quite a shocker after Wrangling these past 6 months.

A couple years ago at the last gas crisis, I about had a seizure when I missed my regular fill up and the bill was just over $100!

If you have Safeways that pump gas in your area, they give you some kind of card that is good for .03 up to .20/gal discount depending on your other purchases. A few of them even have prescription drugs too, which can add up along with your groceries. THere's some kind of points accumulated thing that cues the pump jockeys on what the charge is. They have to pump, our state law says we're too hazardous to be allowed to pump our own.

I traded in my 07 FJ for a 2010 Camaro, then traded the Camaro for a 2010 Wrangler Unlimited, then bought a 2011 Camaro, then traded the 2010 W.U. in on a 2011 Wrangler 2 dr. I would wait for the 2012s and the new engine if youre looking at a 4 door. The lack of power isnt as noticeable in the 2 door, I just couldnt live with the sluggish 4 door anymore. That being said, the 2 door feels much more nimble (obviously) and much more like my FJ did, which I do miss at times. Unlike most on here, I love FJs and think theyre great, but obviously I have a short attention span! For me the top off/doors off thing was the dealbreaker-I almost got another FJ instead of the 2 dr Wrangler. You cant go wrong with either one, imo.

The FJ has great road manors and a respectable off-road disposition with its proven 4l engine, solid transmission and unique styling...BUT...it's like driving a freakin' cave. With not even a sunroof option, pitiful rear passenger windows (that do not open), tiny rear seat--and your rear passengers are graced with a scenic view of a monstrous c pillar--the wrangler blows the FJ away in livability, in my opinion. Top off, doors off...you cannot beat!

Local grocery store that use gives $0.05 off for every $50 you spend. I got $1.20 off per gallon last time.

And if you buy walmart gift card you get $.05 off every gallon.

Only two ways I buy gas.

We have a guy with FJ in the club. He's got extended travel kit in front and goes quite well. I test-drove FJ, but bought Jeep because it's more of a midlife crisis vehicle. For one thing, I can pop the top off. So it's basically a Mazda MX-5 4x4.

My Rubi also comes with some goodies that are not factory available from Toyota on FJ, such as front locker and electric sway-bar disconnect. The 4:1 transfer case is also very nice. All of that is aftermarket on FJ.

One thing that really annoyed me about buying an FJ is how they require you go go way up on options before they sell you anything off-road capable. You must get stuff like the compass trio and back-up camera before you can order the rear locker. What's up with that, Toyota?

I think the best thing about driving a wrangler vs an FJ is people will not assume you are a chick. .

gas in my neck of the woods is $1.31 per Litre (5.24 per gallon). It costs me nearly $80 ($77 USD) to fill the Jeep..
