Any Jeep Jamboree Plans for 2014?

My son and I are looking to attend the Pine Barrens Jamboree in March this year. It is close to our house so it's a good one to start with plus I have camped down there before and like the area. Will be Wet and sandy and should be great fun.

Has anyone attended this trip before?

Anyone else have other plans yet?

We did drummond island last summer - we had a blast. We're doing Wisconsin and South Dakota this summer. Can't wait. So many jeepers in one place, lots of fun and great people.

I am attending five jamborees this year. Catskills, Killington, coal mountain, Penn's woods, and the new jamboree in west Virginia that I think is called Greenbriar.

I am not a fan of water/mud related offroading which is why I passed on the pine barrens trip. Could be fun though.

My wife tried to get me the lone star spur, since it is an hour from us, for christmas but it was sold out. I think we are going to try the one in Cullman, Al in October. We are also pondering the Vermont overland tour this year as well, but would need to find a second Jeep as it requires teams.

We have done many JJ in the past...always a great time no matter what your skill level, food is always great, trail leaders are very helpful and keep the jeeps moving.

Generally there are bypasses if you do not want to do a particular obstacle, It is a great way to learn the capabilities if you Jeep.

Go for it!

I've been looking for a jamboree online. Hard for me living SO far down in south Texas, near Brownsville. The closest one near Austin is sold out. Maybe Louisiana. The one in Amarillo is in the same state but still almost 10-11 hours away. The hardest part of any trip is just getting out of the state. Would love to do Ouray. Timing and location play a big part.

Is there a lot of waiting in line for the jeeps to get through some of the obstacles, or do they space them out--different groups of jeeps that is. I've never been to one.

Yes there is a ton of waiting around. I've spent up to 60 minutes not moving while poorly equipped rigs failed on obstacles. Also expect to encounter delays while trail repairs are made.

Each trail has specific technical requirements; however, jamboree officials do not fully enforce the requirements leading to long delays.

Regardless of the delays i am registered for five jamborees this year. You just have to relax and not stress over the long waits.

good to know.

from pictures and videos of some trips it almost looked like they split the groups based on lift/tire size ... that may just be my imagination but the videos from various trips either showed mostly stock jeeps or impressive/heavily modified jeeps.

either way i will have the iPad mounted for wasting time.

what other things are good to have in mind so you have the right expectations? i don't particularly care but the wife might need a better idea as she will be my co-pilot.

My first Jamboree - Arch Canyon 4/24-26. What do you folks think of Jeep Jamboree USA as an organization? I have never dealt with them before.
