Any Problem with This?

Ok, so I have 16x8 wheels with 4.5" backspacing and GY DT 315/75-16 tires. I put the spare on the stock tire carrier and the bottom of the tire sits right in the cut-out in the stock rear bumper. The edge of the tire sits about 1" deep into the cut-out. I can open and close the tailgate with only a slight drag of the tire on the bumper. Can any of y'all see any problems with this??
I'm thinking maybe that with the tire resting on the bumper a little that it may actually give the heavier tire/wheel combo some extra support...am I missing something??

Mike

No worries beyond scuffing the plastic bumper over time. But who cares. Like you say, if anything it gives a little extra support.

Did you replace the bumpstops? Probably need a set of the daystar bumpstops to replace the factory ones if they're not contacting the tire.

This will help stop vibration that could eventually make the tire mount break off.

I replaced my factory carrier with the Smittybilt carrier. It was only $129.

Nice tip SK. I forgot about the tire bumper not working with his new tire.

As an alternative to the POS Daystar bump stops, try looking at golf ball, PVC pipe, or thick heater hose for the tire to rest against. You can place any of these in the OEM bump stops to extend a length of your needs. I've read about the Daystar things breaking mere days after installing them.

Yeah, the tire is about 1/2" off of the snubbers. Tomorrow, I'm gonna get on my lathe and turn some mushroom shaped spacers out of Delrin(black plastic) to slide inside the rubber snubbers.
