And as soon as everyone trades in their obsolete JK's next year for the Pentastar, Jeep will introduce a diesel or hemi or something else and the race for the latest and greatest will start all over again!

Yeh, those obsolete JK trade ins for the Pentastar JK. Hope a few will be for sale from private owners and not all trade ins. They'll be so obsolete you won't hardly be able to give them away. I may be looking for one of the old obsolete one's, because I think the 1st run of Pentastars are going to be at a premium over MSRP. Be just like the 2007 Mustang GT500/Shelby I bought "new" sittin in my garage with less than 7k miles on it, because Ford said that it was going to limit production on the GT500's. What a frigging lie that was. Everyone paid a premium due to Ford's b.s. lie.

i dont see the first going for over msrp, i will prob be the only engine you can get in the USA. i might guess there will be a price increase. yeah Ford limited production and made only the amount that they could in a given period of time,, and have done the same thing in each consecutive year after that.

I've not heard much recent news. We ended up buying a 2010 JK vs waiting for the Pentastar or buying a 2011 - I'm not a fan of being a first year guinea pig, especially with Jeep products....it does look very promising though!

Some dealers are marking up new Wranglers as they sit now...they know everyone is waiting on these new engines so I guarantee they will mark them up.

you have got to be a fool or have more money than brains to pay over sticker(msrp) for any regular/normal car that is still in production. Around the Detroit area no one pays anywhere near msrp on a "regular" production car, almost everyone can get at least the supplier or friend/family pricing....if not better. A Dealer marking up cars in this economy must be selling to a very uneducated consumers. IF i the pentastar is the only engine option and not limited production i cannot see additional dealer markup or "market correction" as it put some times, being a factor. I also would never want to have the first year of production either, i dont want them to learn any lessons at my expense.

How long has the Pentastar been Around> I know the 3.8L was in Chryslers 18 years before ever going into a JK and that motor/tranny combo started off rough. Some of the early Caravans ripped through trannys like candy with other issues. Luckily over the years they worked everything out long before they ever made the JK

Just wondering how long the Pentastar has been around and what tranny will it be paired to it? Is it already a proven motor and motor tranny combo. Because if it isn't people want know of issues for a few years later.

I was recently told by my local dealer that the Pentastar was not coming in 2012. Already own a 2010 Wrangler so he was not trying to sell me a 2011. Don't know if he is full of you know what or not. He said he was told by Corporate at a recent sales meeting. I guess we will find out when the 2012 are announced. Hope he is wrong!

It's a new engine that was introduced in the past 2 years. It is in several vehicles including the challenger, charger, and grand cherokee. The point was to stop building 4 different 6 cylinder engines and replace them all with one.

Salespersons are always trying to sell you a vehicle. The fact that you even asked about the Pentastar showed him that you might be interested so he told you what he did. The Pentastar is 100% confirmed for 2012.

Frankly, if gas prices continue to go crazy, I think Jeep sales are going to suffer and maybe they will have to offer incentives.

i agree, it may have already started w/ the recent, $500 Mopar coupons that were/are being offered through the end of April......., and that may only be the start.

I wonder if/how they will get better MPG out of an engine that will make that much more HP. I think the thing that will have a better chance of doing that will be when the newer 5-7speed transmissions come into the production stream. A lower(numerically) should enable the Wrangler to pickup a couple few MPG on the freeway and maybe in the city also. It maybe the case that our aerodynamic as a brick vehicles may just be stuck getting not so good MPG.

I think that to rush into the Pentastar engine would be foolish. If I am going to wait.....wait for the new tranny to go w/ the new engine. IMHO that is the best chance for any big change in MPG.

According to Mike Manley, the Wrangler in this video is the 2012 model. I wish they would show us under the hood.

mike's totally free jeep news now - News

This would seem to end the rumors that the 2012 model was getting a new body design.

As I have been saying for the last umpteen years, whenever (if ever?) there is a diesel option for the Jeep (Wrangler) here in the States', I'll be lining up with my order. I don't need -or- want a Hemi, or any latest or greatest spark-plug eating 4 or 6 banger gas engine in my Jeep, I just want a diesel and I'll be content....

diesels definetly have their advantages(reliablity, longevity of engine, ect), but at the current time at least in the USA those have been mitigated by high option cost of engine, higher fuel cost, and sometimes difficult to find fueling outlets. I am not sure the USA is willing to accept the diesel as readily as many other parts of the world yet

They had the same incentive last April.

Find Pat@Fields on this forum, he normally gives us updates on incentives along with the best Wrangler deals I've read about (and experienced).

If the Jeep CEO is announcing it as a 2012 model at the April 2011 auto show in New York, I'd say his information would be pretty accurate compared to what we've read on random, non Jeep owned sites and forums

He introduced the Mojave as a 2012 but the article right below it called it a 2011 special edition vehicle being introduced in June. Which information is correct? I read somewhere the new 2012 Wrangler was going to be a MY edition and would incorporate a new body design. I guess we will all know when they come out in the fall.

You're right about that "and" value of the U.S. dollar continues to decline, it will cost more U.S. dollars to buy one or anything else for matter of fact. I'm in no hurry and will wait to see what happens later this year in regard to what Wrangler/Jeep has to offer.

Interesting article, Jeep Mohave. This is were I live, Bullhead City AZ. and I've done the Mohave Trail in my 06 Liberty CRD. Don't need a Wrangler to do the Mohave Trail in the early spring. Summer months, not a good idea unless you want to get heat stroke.

Mojave is a 2011, not a 2012. They are being built now.

I agree that most dealers won't be trying to get over MSRP only because the Wrangler is not a limited production vehicle. I for one bought my JK because I wanted it, I wasn't worried about incentives or gas prices. And no I didn't get that much of a better deal than most of you got. Plus I think we all can agree that charging over msrp is just ethically/morally wrong. All it does is create another upset customer that has a bad feeling about Jeep and the dealership. It's truly a no win.

There will be some dealers that will try to take advantage of people waiting for the 2012 and the Pentastar, however I will not be one fo them. The Fields Jeep banner you see stating 1-2% under invoice will always be my pricing. And Like I always say, if you qualify for other incentives like military, lease loyalty, or any other incentive you get those too. So for those of you waiting for the 2012, find a good dealer close to you that will want your business. And finding one that has a large allocation would be smart too. That way your new 2012 will probably be in your driveway the end of August.

I wish that I knew you Pat before I bought mine. Love my Jeep, hate my dealer, another dealer is getting all my service work. Refuse to go back to them. They tried to screw me in the finance paperwork thinking I wouldn't actually read them. They added nearly $1500.00 in extra charges. Then told me when I caught it and they knew it, that my trade in wasn't worth as much as they offered. They shouldn't have offered it. Hope your around when I want another one. My daughter already told me she gets mine when she turns 18. But that's 6 years from now

Wrangler: Worst Car of the Year

Maybe the Pent will take us off the list! LOL From Forbes.com:
The Worst Cars On The Road

Jeep's Liberty and Wrangler earned spots on Consumer Reports' Least Reliable list for 2011. The Wrangler also received Consumer Reports' Worst Value and Worst Cars distinctions, the latter of which is based on more than 50 individual Consumer Reports tests and evaluations. The Wrangler also appeared on our Worst Cars list last year.

Just out of curiosity... will the manufacturing of pentastar wranglers eventually make it difficult to find OEM engine parts for the, dare-i-say-it, more 'obsolete' engines (aka: ours)?
