Anybody else waiting until 2012 to buy?

I've been on the fence for the past few months due to the impending arrival of the Pentastar engine in 2012. I test drove a 2011 and found it to be a lot peppier than I expected and was hours away from completing the deal but backed out at the last moment.

I just can't bring myself to buy right now knowing that we'll see a new engine/trans for 2012 and who knows what other improvements. Not to knock the 2011 in any way, I was really impressed with the new interior too.

It's going to be a long year but in the end, I think it will be worth the wait. I can't be the only one, can I?

There's always going to be something coming that's newer and better.. but life is way too short, and that will be a one long year of enjoyment that you will be missing.. so I'm thinking, if you liked with you saw now.. why wait!

Couldn't have said it better myself. I feel the exact same way. My 2011 is on the way, and so I should be done paying it off right around the time the 75th anniversary models come out in 2016. Hopefully they'll have a badass package for that.

If it is new in 2012 will the bugs be worked out or is it a work in progress?

If it was the first year for the engine, I'd probably buy now. Since it will have had a year in the Grand Cherokee, I'm banking on the kinks being worked out if any arise. I know they were having problems with block castings but that's all I've heard about.

I had the same thoughts myself when I was recently buying my 2010 (Unlimited), but I went ahead and bought it. (and this was my first Jeep ever).

I researched the Pentastar as much as I could with internet resources and to be honest its capability didnt exactly blow me away.

I find the tow package option (that gives you the 3.73 gears) and the 6-speed manual to give me adequate power to get up and go in traffic and generally cruise around. (i also dont think that the gas mileage differenfce would be enough to matter either. Now, I havent taken it off-road yet, but I'm not seeing any issues there either.

Honestly, you really dont want the Jeep with more HP cause..... you really cant go but so fast safely in these things anyway.

What I WOULD have waited for .....is a deisel. imo, THAT is what the Wranglers are missing.....Torque. (deisels also have a side effect of major gas mileage advantages).

Anyway, my .02

In 2012 what if there is a body change in store for 2013 do you still wait, now you are waiting 2-3 years not just 1-2. Vehicles go the way of technology if you wait there is always something better.

I'm not talking about holding out for a better stereo or a chrome shift knob. A new engine/trans is pretty damn significant.

Well... As recently as earlier this year, there were rumors that the new engine would show up in the 2011. Again, how long do you wait?

I agree that is significant but what I am saying is where do you draw the line on holding out. At this point it is most likely 2012, it could always be moved back...or even up. But what if there is another engine option for 2013? I can understand waiting, but what I am saying is the grass will always be greener.

I'm not playing the waiting game any more. '11 has a lot of nice stuff to offer with a proven engine, I'm jumping in.

There has been no official announcement that the 3.6 will be in the '12 Wrangler. It's all specualtion. There were tons of people who swore up and down that it woul dbe in the 2011. One of them even owned a dealership. Funny but I haven't seen him post in quite a while. So if you wait a year and it isn't, then do you wait another year for the next rumor? Either buy a Wrangler or don't.

Man up and get it already. Are the opinions of people on this forum really going to make a difference in your decision?

If it was going to be the Hemi as an option, maybe I'd wait, but that will never happen. A lot of things can happen between now & then, enjoy every minute of it!

True, the announcement hasn't been made but it's coming.

I have a coworker whose husband works in the Trenton engine plant where the Pentastar engine is made. Due to his insider knowledge, I knew before it became public that they were having problems with the block castings cracking so I consider him a reliable source. All of the planning being done now is for a 2012 release in the Wrangler as well as other vehicles. They're also opening another plant in Mexico (which has been announced already).

There's no guarantee but I'll bet anybody good money that it's in the 2012.

As a rule I never buy a "first year" anything. Especially from Chrysler...

I hear you on that. I leased a 2006 Impala which was the first year for a major redesign and had nothing but problems. All minor but so many of them that it was a pain in the butt to deal with.

I guess I'm putting faith in Chrysler to have any kinks in the Pentastar worked out by then. Of course there could be other problems with the rest of the drive train or with any other changes they make.

It's all risk vs reward and I consider the reward to be worth the risk.

I'm so happy with my TJ, that I don't want a JK until they come out with a JK truck. THEN I'll buy. But only then.

X2... No one know when or if it will come. Buy now if you like. Don't if you don't, seems pretty simple.
