never tried it myself but saw someone doing that a few weeks ago on the Palisades Pkwy in NJ. Maybe that was you.

Nope, I've always understood that the exhaust fumes get sucked back into the Jeep. That and it seems like it would fatigue the hinges and lift mounts.

There's a roof? try it open the back window and drive around you'll smell it soon enough.

In my tj with the back window open i smell exhaust at certain speeds. Probably just some weird air flow.

And driving with all windows closed except the rear one sucks! I did it once and I almost passed out from breathing exhaust... so unless you wanna pass out and crash your Jeep don't do it or just take off the doors too, then you should be fine

^ there you go you will only suck in exhaust if the back window is the only one open. open the front ones and the problem is no more.

x2 you need to have front windows open to keep the fumes from coming in.

Thats what i meant in my post above...I wouldnt drive around with the back window open and all the others up. There would be no point.
The OP question was freedom tops off, windows down and back window open...

When I buy lawnmower gas to take home I've tried with driving with the back glass open and closed and with it open I get less gas fumes. I've never just done it with the glass open. I've worried that little hydraulic piston that holds it open will let go and it will slam closed and break at highway speeds so I drive slow when its open.
