Anyone else have trim warping?

On my 2012 JKU, the plastic trim is warping outward just under the radio. It sticks out about 1/4". I can push it back in, but it doesn't stay. Is anyone else having this problem, or am I the only one?

Since it's new you could always have it replaced or fixed under warranty. I think we are all a bit more sesitive to things like this when we first buy our vehicles. What got me to not care about just about anything was after my first real wheeling trip. The jeep was covered in scratches, mud, and my soft top definitely didn't look new anymore. After the shock I was fine from then on.

Not sure where I'm going with this...

I know I'm a little sensitive about it, it's my first new car period, let alone the Jeep I saved for and waited for for years. I thought about the warranty thing, just curious to see if others are having the same issue.

This is my second new vehicle and yes mine is doing it as well and its driving me nuts! I took off the entire panel to see what was behind it and couldnt find anything that would push it out, but in the process of taking off the panel, I broke a clip, so Im wondering if the dealer here in my area would knock me for doing that. In any case, I hate how it sticks out, just one of those things that catches your eye. The other thing that irritates me is how the plastic on the radio is so easy to scratch. It had just a lite layer of dust on it, so I whiped it and the rest of the dash with a microfiber cloth....now in the sun the plastic is scratched to hell!

Yeah, Me too... Spoke to the salesman that keeps following up about a few things and he went south on me. Heck the guy is asking if I have anything he could help me with, then when I start listing some stuff he said I must have done it. F' Him.

My 2011 JKU does the same thing-about 1/4 inch. It really looks tacky. Poor attention to detail with the new interior. Just goes with all the other "little" things Jeep doesn't care to change since sales continue to be strong despite chronic issues with quality and workmanship.

That maybe true, but the only way to get them to change it, is to make the dealers fix the items under warranty. When they see how much money they spend on dealer repairs, and when the dealers complain about the poor workmanship, then it will change. Either that or we all stop buying jeeps.

I have seen other posts on this poor fit. I would have the dealer replace it. I wouldn't want to look at it.

Yes and had them replace the whole piece....unfortunately it didn't make a huge difference but it made some. Mine bowed out quite a bit, closer to the driver side under my nav system. When they put the new one on it bowed out evenly....ugh. It isn't near as bad but is still a bit of an eye sore because of my seating I look right down at it (and behind it). There is no screw or anything behind there to hold it back. It's just Jeep Cheap plastic. I agree, it looks like crap. I may try to heat mine up a bit or get behind it and see if there is anything I can do to attach something and pull it back into place. $34k for a Jeep and it does that.....not cool. But if you want a Jeep I guess it is what it is.

Price means nothing. You could have spent 100k on a Mercedes and things still wont be perfect. Dont believe me, drive by the Mercedes service bays, they are not all getting oil changes. Rattles, ticks, humming. They got it just as bad. If you want a absolute perfect car that is so great it doesnt need a warranty, well I have not been able to find one.

I agree with you to a point. Things break, things don't work, etc... I used to sell exotics Ferrari, Maserati, Aston, Porsche, etc and price did mean something in most cases. The attention to detail was superb. Granted we are talking apples and oranges in that case but there are PLENTY of other vehicles out there a lot cheaper than my Jeep that at least appear to have better quality.

In any case: dude go get the dealership to replace it for you. Jeep knows it's an issue. They took photos and forwarded to Jeep and I had a new dash piece within two day.

Right and those exotics are built in smaller numbers. If Ferrari sold as many vehicles as Jeep their quality would not be the same. Its impossible to mass produce anything without a few flaws here and there. Everything from electronics, furniture, soft goods are all mass produced and have occasional problems.
Expensive is a relative term. I am realistic when it comes to function over form. I know I paid more than a typical SUV, because well, it's function off-road is second to none, and that's where Jeep concentrates most of its engineering. I would not be willing to give up a slighty more dressed up interior over off road capability. Especially if that means having to raise prices even more.

Most people don't even know what is sitting right below them, so I could see where they see no differance between the Ford, Chevy, or Import SUV's other than a less then perfect interior as a comparison between them. What all those costs add up to are what lies below the body.
A great warranty tankes care of the rest.

No problem here. Had several 100*+ days so far. I would think the heat would cause the warp?

Mine pops out a bit, started after I removed the trim to add an iphone mount. I'm used to it, it's annoying but I know I'll have to remove the dash in the future so it will probably reoccur.

Is it just the units with the bigger navigation screen doing this? I just have the radio with no nav, and mine is fine.

I have the cheap radio and mine looks that way too. This is a fairly common issue. Take a visit to your local dealership; out of 20 vehicles on the lot, I bet you see 10 - 12 that look the same way. I did this myself.

My upper "dish" doe the same thing. If you look from the front of the vehicle through the windshield, you'll see a nice big gap where it meets the dash.

Disappointing, but these gaps don't bother me a whole lot.

I don't think it's the heat that's doing it, I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and we've only had 2 days over 80 this summer. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Time to go to the dealership
