That's what want to know as well.

Mine is averaging 13.9 MPG and it's stock.. huge gap from the 18 to 21 folks are reporting.

Sounds like you drive heavy on the gas, I can get the worst mileage out of our TDI if I race it around, just saying

Holy crap!! At worst I've managed 16, and that's getting on it at green lights. I have the manual, maybe the auto is different? My typical tank around town averages 17-18. On road trips I can pull off a steady 20.

I've put 900 miles on my Rock since i bought her and my average is 18.9 since purchase.

Its a manual about 50/50 highway vs city.

I am finding it hard to believe that so many stock jeeps are so different in MPG, doesn't make sense

im getting 21.8 in town no problem, i never drive on the highway

to the guy above me, its really not hard to believe. how you drive if going to effect the mileage, if you dont shift til 4k and you are on the gas all the time you are going to get horrible mileage. if you drive eco-minded (wallet-minded) you will get fine fuel mileage

A lot of it has to do with driving style and, as I've found out, speed.

Stock, my JK came with the bigger 255/75R17 tires and 3.21 gears. My mileage on the freeway was the same whether I was running 5th gear or 6th. I installed a Bully Dog tuner and put in the economy tune. That added 1-2MPG to my average on the freeway so I could get around 19 MPG

What really surprised me though was what happened on the back roads. Going just over 60 MPH in 5th gear on a country road I was seeing upwards of 23-24 MPG. If I shifted into 6th my RPMs dropped way below where the engine makes power and it lugged going up the hills, killing my mileage.

I now have 4.56 gears and 315/70R17 Duratracs. My mileage on the freeway dropped to between 17 and 18 or so. Mileage on the back roads at 60 has dropped to 21-ish.

Stock 2013 stock JKU.

3800 miles on it so far. I drive about 75% highway/Freeway. My average MPG for the entire 3800 is about 20.3.

My last trip, which was 90 percent Highway/Freeway, 10 percent gravel roads I got just over 21 MPG. I use 87 octane and drive like a granpa in my jeep. I think mostly its driving style. Some folks just like there foot in it all the time. I drove my mustang that way, but have only floored the jeep 2 times since I have had it.

I cant imagine getting less then 19 MPG with my commute. Even my wife when she had it for a day, with reset mileage got 18.7 and she doesnt understand the gas pedal has variations, and just not full on. smile.

" If I shifted into 6th my RPMs dropped way below where the engine makes power and it lugged going up the hills, killing my mileage."

Exactly what I noticed, it seems that 6th is ok if your on a slight downward slope then it runs at 1000rpm no problem , any upward slope needs 5th gear. to stay at 1000rpm.(diesel version)

I got 36.5mpg out of my diesel today. getting better at this eco driving.
I just change up at 1500rpm get into the highest gear I can early.
keep my distance from other traffic so I can roll up to traffic lights. and keep the momentum going.
I use the stop start feature at traffic lights saves about 3-4 mpg on my 15 mile journey.
boring to some , but just another challenge to me.

I have a 2010 JKU on 285/65/17 with 3 inch lift, and I get 18ish going back and forth to work maybe 10 miles with 6 stops 45mph speed limit... I just filled it up and im babying the hell out of her, and were doing about 21mpg right now.. 6speed (I put it in 6th at 50, but gotta drop it to 5th to get up even the smallest hill). Probably mauling my transmission to death...

I get between 19 and 21 mpg, but I feel like it depends on the gas. I live in SA and here there are a lot of Valero stations but I don't get the 19-21 mpg from them. I think it depends on fuel quality.

I've got a 2011 Unlimited Sport with the 3.8 V6, 3.73 gears and 4 speed auto. We took it from DFW to Ouray, Co. In 2011 on 255/75/17 stock tires. We averaged 22.5 mpg for the entire trips including doing Imogene Pass, Ophir Pass, and Corkscrew Gulch. We did the same trip last year on 295/70/17 Nittos, and still averaged 21.7 mpg. I would think the newer 3.6 would blow that away... At the end of the day, it's how hard you push the skinny pedal...

Filled up this morning with Chevron 89 octane.

Here's the results from last tank, Chevron 87 octane. Mostly city driving and no resets.

Racing? .. why would I race a Jeep? Race who? ... My racing days are over.

I know that when I switch between 100% gas and gas with 10% ethanol my mileage takes a hit. I did an informal test and I lose maybe half a MPG or more. That's enough to make the $0.10/gallon extra I have to pay for 100% gas entirely worth it.

Ethanol by nature has less potential energy than gasoline. Cars running straight ethanol use 30-40% more fuel by volume compared to gasoline.

But ethanol is great in high performance applications because of its extraordinary resistance to knock.

Just coming back from a 11 days road trip: Montreal - Orlando - Montreal. I also did drove around from Orlando to the Florida East and West Coasts.

Added 3744 miles (5990 km) to my Jeep's counter during those 11 days.

First of all, I can't drive 55 mph, I like it more around 70-80 mph. I managed to get an average of 18.54 mpg (12,76 L/100km). This is hand calculated with all my fuel bills and mileage. My JKU is a stock 2013 Sahara, 6 speed with 3.73. I did use the AC most of the time and we also did some driving with the top down.

FWIW on the I-95 in North Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, nice flat and straight road, I set the cruise control at 85 mph, I was still getting passed. At that speed, I wished the tranny would have had a 7th speed, Pentastar was revving around 2500-2600 rpm on 6th gear.

Took a trip north of Toronto and back:
13' JKU, 3.6, 5sp Auto
20.7 mpg @70mph on expressway
20.0 mpg @75mph

Surprised I got that close to 21 as there were some moderately hilly regions, I'm sure 21 could be reached if going a little slower...

Without stating your engine (3.8/3.6), rear drive ratio (3 different ones), tire size, model (JK/JKU), transmission (4 different ones) you can talk all day and it means nothing compared to the person that posted before you. It's apples and oranges, right?

If you have a 2013 JK soft top with a 6 speed manual, 3.21 rear end and stock tires and compare your mileage to a 2010 JKU hardtop with an automatic, 4:10 rear end and 35" tires why even have the conversation?

"I get 21 mpg"
"I get 14 mpg"

Move on please.

3.21 ratio??? And is this hand calculated or from the Jeep's info center?

13' JKU, 3.6, 5sp Auto, 3.73, Hard top (everything is stock, 255/75/17), 87 octane...

according to Jeep's info center:

20.7 mpg @70mph on expressway there (lots of cops on the road-speed limit is 100km/h or 62mph)
20.0 mpg @75mph (on the way back)

I get 13-14 around the city, during my commute...

Just took my 2013 four door/hard top w auto trans and 3.73 rear axel, 255/70/sr18 tires....on it's 1st highway trip today. Maybe 40-50 miles round trip with around 6-8 miles city (3-4 each way) before hitting the highway. Anyway, the info guage said 20.8mpg when I got back. I set the cruise at 63-64 mph going and 60 mph coming home (construction areas). Using the gas the dealer put in 2 weeks ago (87 octane ?).

Before I added a lift and 35s I got about 22mpg highway with a stock 6spd sport, hardtop, 3.21 gears. I went on a 600 mile round trip recently and got 20mpg, bt was very easy on the gas. When I drive normally I get about 17mpg highway.

I'm getting around 17.5 - 18 MPG in the Denver, CO area, city driving only. I have only a few tanks of gas through it though.

Windows up, and lights and defroster/ac off helps.

On my 46 mile round trip daily commute which is mostly 64 MPH cruise on rural highway, and some 50 MPH secondary roads, and some small town driving on either end, I have been doing about 21 MPG, and a few tenths better if it isn't too windy.

Rig is 2013 JKUS auto hardtop with 3.21s and stock 255/75/17 tires.
