My last fill-up today was 18.8 mpg. Yippee, skippy. If I were of a mind to grind mileage, I'd do couple things:

1.) drive everywhere at between 45-50 mph
2.) never use the cruise control - it's laughably bad

Or so it says. I find it just as hard to believe as anyone else. I honestly don't believe it myself, but I've been driving mostly on highway recently.

I know the CC in the 02 Cherokee sucked...it was so badly calibrated that it would accelerate, let off, accelerate, let off. Almost as if it was set to accel when the speed dropped 1 MPH under set speed and coast when it reaches 1 MPH over set speed.

My 09 JK isn't bad at all, even with 3.21s and 225 tires. Seems pretty consistent to maintain speed. It does slow a bit on uphill, but I expected that since I came out of a 300 HP 3400 lb Mustang that would hold speed without a problem.

i have no problem with the CC on my 2013 JK...i use it all the time on open highway... usually around 70 mph

I have never been a fan of using CC in hilly areas..i have never had a vehicle that i felt comfortable using it on hills..always seems to drop down to much and accelerate WAY too hard...never seemed like a good idea ...for vehicle wear and fuel mileage

On my 13 the cc is awesome. It maintains very well and transitions on a hill quite smoothly. On my last vehicle (toyota) it would hammer the throttle on an incline and shoot about 10 mph if approaching the top of an incline. It was no good. I've driven about 5 or so other car makes with cc and I'm very impressed with the 2013 jk cc. If yours isn't so good then have it checked. It's a must have.

I've had my 2012 for just over a year, now. It has the manual 6-speed with 4.10-gears. My driving is about 20-miles of highway, which is between 55- and 65-mph, and then about 5-miles of city, stop-and-go traffic. If I am really paying attention, I can average 20-mpg. If I start driving like Speed Racer, I only am getting about 17.5-mpg.

I'm speedracer for sure. 17 is my highway mileage. Also for me to factor in I'm at 5,000' elevation in the high desert.

Got 17.3 averaging 65mph climbing 4,000ft gradually for 5hrs using a full tank. Loaded down with luggage and with hard top on in 90 deg calm weather. Started @ 3,700' to 4,700', ending at 5,200' with a 2013 jkur. After our trip I'm now at 5,700 no on the Jeep and started with a fresh oil change.

First leg of a road trip today from Fort Carson/Colorado Springs to PA/NY. 378 miles with 350 of those on the interstate. Had 200 pounds of gear plus my Labrador with me. Ran the AC the whole time. Fuel economy for this leg: 20.8 mpg.

I just picked up my 2013 Wrangler unlimited sport about a month ago. Bare bones other than the connectivity package. I've found with the 6 speed I'm getting pretty respectable mileage. On the highway I can average between 20 and 22. Mixed driving I'm getting 19.7 or better. I shift at 2k and drive reasonably. I'm sure the small tires that look like they're off of a corolla help, we'll see how it changes when I bump them up to 32's in the near future.

I'd believe that, so long as you're driving on flattish roads with minimal stopping doing 40-50, that's when I get my best efficiency.

Yes, and more.

We came back from a mini vacation yesterday. I thought of this thread as we were driving along, so after we got onto the highway and set the cruise control to 65 I reset the computer. The pic below is after 50 miles or so at 65, a slight headwind and the A/C turned on. I didn't take the pic until we'd exited the highway and drove on some stop-and-go back roads for a couple of miles but I don't think the average went above that.

23.6 mpg on a 2013 Sahara with 3.21 gearing, auto and stock tires.

So can we have the short version from someone that has had some experience with tire sizes vs gear. From what I can figure from the charts as long as you don't leave the green twinge for your gear you would actually raise your mpg as tire size goes up until you start loosing power. Ie 4:10 gears with 33" over the factory tires your rpm @ 70 would drop and you would not be loosing any significant acceleration to burn extra fuel.

I regularly get over of 21 fwy mpg with my '13 Freedom Edition 3.73's 6spd m6 at 65-70 mph. Around 17.5 in town for an combined 18.7 to 19.3 mpg. I'm very pleased with the mileage as my boss has a '13 Rubicon auto with 4.11's and is getting in the 16 mpg range combined.

Yeah, the 2013s seem to be getting good gas mileage as far as a jeep goes. I manage to get around 19.9 on average, but it'll bump up to around 23 sometimes when I'm on the highway for a good 30 min.

I average around 20 mph, that's half highway and half city.

Wow, I get 12-13 mpg in city driving, barely above 16 mpg on the highway -- hand calculated. '13 JKU Moab Auto. Sort of hilly around here, but close to sea level. I have about 2000km on it so far.

Yeah this info is all good but doesn't do much good with out tire sizes. If you changed gearing what was your mileage before or before and after on tire size changes.

100mule trip, mostly 65 cruise control all flat. Rubicon Unlimited stock KM2s with auto and 4.10's got 18.8. Saw 19 for a very short time but ended the trip after a few stop lights near destination at just under.

Stock 32" bfg mt's on 17's, 2" lift, factory 4:10's, 2013 @ 17.3 mpg on the highway with only 5,700 miles so far. I get 13-16 mpg in town depending on my foot.
