I put a pretty good smoosh into the corner of my stock bumper whie wheeling yesterday and rather than try fixing it I was thinking of doing the stubby mod.
I see the VDP caps at Quadratec for $65 but after looking at the installation instructions I see that its only plastic push-screws holding them on?? Do they hold well? Or is there a better way to attatch them?
I'm thinking of doing the same mod, and reusing the markers from the fenders there too. Did you trim your fenders yourself? Do you have measurements or a template for your cuts- they look really good.
I wouldn't trust just an adhesive. When I installed mine, I ran a line of shoe goo between the bumper and stubs, then pressed in the pin fasteners. I did this just to eliminate or minimize any vibration or motion that the pins might allow. I've had no problems. Personally, using adhesive on plastic pieces is a crap shoot. Especially between two parts that are black and will be exposed to direct sunlight regularly.
I don't have the VDP caps, but I did do the 'stubby' mod on my old '07. I drilled a few holes and then used a rivet gun to attach the end caps. Help up quite nicely. And I just used some flat black paint to 'blend' the rivets with the plastic.
Thanks so much for the detail and links! I'll see how adventurous I feel this weekend!
