Anyone know if Samsung Galaxy S4 or Note 2 is Bluetooth Compatible w/JKU 130 System?

I am eligible for a cell phone upgrade and my currrent cell (Samsung Galaxy S) has never been reliable in connecting to my stock stereo (model 130). I'd like to get either the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the Samsung Note 2 but the UConnect website does not have any compatability listing for either of those 2 phones. Anyone with real world experience? Thanks in advance.

My Note 2 works for everything, but the contact syncing is flakey. I get about half the contacts to sync. I just manually entered the ones I cared about into uConnect and stopped fighting it.

The short lag between skipping songs via the steering wheel controller & the BT/phone (note 2) is kind of annoying & you cannot connect immediately at startup. The UCI feature keeps wanting to connect for about the first 30 sec to minute or so.

But it beats listening to commercials & no monthly Satellite fee. Not to mention the cassette doesn't get eaten.

Voice recognition can be trying but that's a Uconnect issue not the phone.

Just a heads up on the note 2:

Great phone, works with bluetooth, but the screen is FRAGILE in the extreme. Get a case before you even take it out of the package. The thing is huge but delicate.

PM paleh0rse, he had a Note and now has an S4, and his Jeep has the 130 with Connectivity, so he would probably know about both.

can you explain this a bit more about not being able to connect right away? Do you mean streaming audio doesn't connect right away or BT at all? You mentioned "UCI", are you talking about a thumb drive or the phone itself? Also which radio do you have? Thanks

I have the base model stock stereo (no touchscreen). Pretty sure its the 130 but I honestly have not checked the designation. I specifically did not want the screen. It's just the CD player with Sirius, UCI (thumbdrive), & Bluetooth options.

When I start the Jeep and have the cell on, it takes about 30 sec or so for the BT audio to start. If you press the AUX input button (lower left) right at startup, it looks for the USB input first & won't go into Bluetooth Audio mode immediately. Wait a few seconds, press the AUX button, & it interfaces with Bluetooth audio & the last song playing in the playlist starts up where it left off the last time the Jeep was turned off. I do not use the USB port in the console since I have my DC charger right there & use the phone anyway.

All in all, I am pleased with the performance of the Note 2 / audio interface.

Funny thing though, the display will indicate the song, but sometimes it indicates the wrong song. Example: I have Black Dog playing , Black Dog is displayed. But sometimes I have 17 Crash on & it indicates that I Wanna Be Somebody is cued up. Weird. I expect that's a metadata problem between the phone playlist & what BT is picking up. Not a big deal though.

WRT voice recognition, you have to be EXTREMELY clear & enunciate loudly. If the windows are down at 60 mph, forget it. Roll them back up before calling. Again that's a Uconnect issue though.

Syncing the phone was not a problem. I had a Motorola when I first got the Jeep. Upgraded to the Note 2 in December. No issues resyncing.

What you're experiencing is normal operation. A2DP is the last profile to be connected to Uconnect. BT car kits don't connect to the phone in the same profile sequence.
Uconnect will:
1) Find and pair to the phone
2) Tell the phone what profiles it supports,
3) As the phone what it supports,
4) Download your phones contacts & #'s
5) If the phone supports MAP, Uconnect will download your last 10 messages,
6) Now Uconnect will bond with the phone (final connection for the HF section),
7) Finally Uconnect will connect to the A2DP profile of the phone for streaming audio.
Depending on the phone and the # of contacts, this could take a minute or so before you're able to play streaming audio.

This is a follow up post to my initial post. I did buy a samsung galaxy s4 and it seemed to work pretty flawlessly for the first few months and now works very inconsistently. I'll make a call and it'll ring once and then it will say "phone call completed." Other times the person on the other end will answer but no sound comes thru. It'll stop ringing as person answered but I can't communicate nor can person who answers. This is very frustrating. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

May I guess that you are on either the Sprint or Verizon networks if in the USA or any other CDMA network if in Canada? If so then may I also ask if you updated your phone to the Android 4.3 SW version recently? If so then that is the issue and not Uconnect.
I have 3 Samsung S3's in our family and 1 NOTE2. They all originally had the Android 4.1 & 4.2 in them and worked fine. Recently the NOTE2 and 2 of the S3's have been updated and now do the same thing when attempting a call. (call completed) the 1 S3 that is still on 4.2 is working perfectly fine.
If you have not updated the phone yet, are still on the older Android version and having this issue, then I'd suggest a rebooting of the phone. This is done by removing the battery for a couple minutes then reinsert it. Now try a call.

Yes I am in the U.S. and my provider is Verizon and yes, my phone recently updated and that's when I started having the problems. Am I screwed now?

We had the same exact problems as you listed above (completed call, cannot hear us, etc) with our S4's after updating them to 4.3 on Verizon.

I just recently removed our RES 130 and installed an RHR 730n nav unit with the built in uconnect and latest software. So far both of our phones have been working fine with the new head unit. This doesn't help you but I thought I would mention it.

Before you try replacing the head unit, try adding your Jeep Bluetooth connection to the "My Places" settings on your phone. I was having similar issues recently and even though this "fix" doesn't seem like it would be related, it resolved my issues that I've tested so far. I recently revived an old "dead" post about this. I'll edit this reply with a link to the other thread:

@ ESA31.8T

This may have fixed your issue with the Android 4.3 SW version however what needs to be understood here is that it's not a radio related issue or is it a Uconnect issue. You see there are 3 different suppliers for the Uconnect system which means that there are different SW developers for each company as well as different strategies for each company. The difference is that the supplier of the Uconnect system for the RES, REQ, RBZ & RHB radios queries the phone about having any active calls or not. The phone needs to respond with an answer within a time frame. If it doesn't reply within the time frame, then Uconnect thinks there is not an active call and goes back to the radio mode. Uconnect worked fine with the phone when it had the 4.2x SW on it and only had an issue after the phone was updated to 4.3.
The mfg of the 730 / 730N radios (Harman) does not query the phone about calls.
Here is why the 1st supplier does query, because of how the CDMA networks operate, they don't always tell the phone that the call has ended so if you have an incoming call and the caller hangs up before you do, sometimes the radio will stay in hands free mode because the network didn't tell the phone the call had ended so the phone never told Uconnect that the call was now ended. When this happens, the radio will stay in hands free mode and you have to end the call from the radio side.
Samsung knows about the issue and are currently working on an update to fix it.
On another note, it can been seen that this is a Samsung issue because the HTC ONE phone on either Sprint or Verizon does not have this issue.

I have the same problem, and it is pretty infuriating, because the people on the other end of the call think I am pranking them or something. It is very frustrating.

I am going to try the hard reset as well as adding my Jeep to "my places". I'll report back if that fixes anything

No problems with my 2014 and galaxy s4 or note 3. Worked on the first attempt.

Agree with a reinstall on the radio and/or reset of the phone.

I tried the "my places" trick, and it made me want to drive over my phone. In my opinion, the S4 is a piece of crap... maybe it's more appropriate to say that google services are junk, either way, this phone has given me a lot of grief.

When I turned on my places, the phone launched the completely over-intrusive "hands free mode", which is garbage...I'll spare you the details

I've read a number of threads that point to the fact that the dreaded "phone call completed" message is a problem with the phone, not the 130 unit, more specifically, the crappy 4.3 operating system. Android 4.4, aka KitKat has been leaked to be released by the end of february, so hopefully that takes care of the issue...

Looks like Android Kit Kat 4.4 is coming out soon for Verizon, and is already released for some US carriers. I am wondering if the updated operating system will alleviate the "phone call complete" problem....

That setting is actually for something else. It determines how long your phone is "visible" to other devices when you're trying to pair up for a Bluetooth connection. Once you're actually connected, it "shouldn't" make a difference.

But if you want to give it a shot...

On my S4, that setting is one of the menu items when you're on the main Bluetooth menu (where you would connect or scan for Bluetooth devices). Just press the menu button on your phone while on that screen (bottom left on the S4).

Please don't set it to "never time out". This leaves you vulnerable to Bluetooth hackers. Basically you're saying "Hello Mr. Hacker, I'll hold the door open for you while you take my personal information."

I went on samsungs website and did a live chat with an agent, who recommended that i clear my cache. It is cleared from a boot menu, which takes some button holding gymnastics to accomplish. I told the agent I wouldnt be able to validate the fix until I try and make a few calls in the Jeep, which I still havent been able to do, but I'm not very hopeful that it will work.

I also went to verizon and explained the problem. They said they have customers complain about this 1000 times over and there is nothing they can do. They told me that if 4.4 comes out and doesnt solve it, they'll give me a new S4, but wont replace it for another model or brand...
