Anyone put lights on the stock bumper?

Howdy all: I'm planning the light configuration on our 2010 JK Unlimited and it occurred to me that I could drill through the top of the stock bumpers where they extend in front of the tires and front fenders. They might take a beating but it would be a good spot for throwing light on either side of the trail. Has anyone done this? Thanks!

P.S. - that area is called a milk jug for a reason - it's hollow. Would probably recommend a more stable mounting surface than that... The bull bar from mopar isn't too badly priced...

I did that before I got a bumper; drilled through the steel and used enough washers to hold it tight.
Worked fine.

Sooner or later you'll want a bumper though. The stocker is made from semi-firm cheese and will eventually cause you some sort of anguish.

Yes, you could do it near the center like HD did, but the OP specifically mentioned in front of the tires, which is why I warned about the milk jugs out there...

Here's mine. I mounted mine through the stock holes. I used a big drill bit and presto bingo... Light mount holes

OP specified side facing though...

Not a "normal" thing to do madriver, but I'm with ya The two outers mounted above the windshield on my DJ point 45 degrees to either side for that same reason, but you get glare putting em up there.

Have you looked at LED lighting? A lot of places have started using the term "rock lights". You can get away with really low wattage using LED and unless you go overboard with em you could probably wire em up without relays even.

Maybe you could mount them inside the front bumper, like I did to my rear......just a thought.
