Who's running Chrome/Polished/Machined (Bright) Wheels on your JK?

Guess I'll amend the thread title ^

What do you guys think about Machined and Clearcoated wheels? I'm liking the Black Rock Machined Yuma with black center cap:

Not chrome, but I think the machined/clearcoated wheel would be more durable?

yes, BUT MAKE SURE they are some how clear coated.. The wheels on my Harley are black and machined NOT CLEAR COATED and they look like crap after 10,000 miles... and i clean my bike pretty regularly.

The other thing about wheels with 2 different finished is that cleaners for one finsh might not be good for cleaning the another finish...

X3! I neglected to consider the outer edge on my wheels. I wanted chrome and black- and purposefully bought cheap, really inset ones knowing I'd bash them. The "bead" edge is mangled and I can't touch it up. I'd do it again- but only with a solid black edge.
And on the chrome thing- black is great for touch-up and is practical. But I love the folks that buy all black because it looks "cool" and/or everyone has it and then make fun of people for chrome. Or the guy that gave me crap and then freaked out because his $300 black wheels got scratched up. (Mine were $100).

I run chrome on mine. Gives it nice pop. I also wheel with it. I have had chrome on a previous 4x4 pickup. I don't do huge rock crawling but I do get deep into the outback. I think I got more damage on my wheels from things like winter road salts than wheeling. Previous wheels didn't start looking real bad until they were at least 10 years old at which point they were kind of dated. I and should have been replaced anyway.

Those look good... got the 'not so gently used' look. My JKU is a DD (for right now) so I won't be mangling my wheels.

I think these would be pretty durable. A clearcoated wheel, you could even put carnauba wax on them if you choose... Here's the description (wheels on the yellow rubi, pic ^):

"Black Rock may call these Series 908 Yuma machined wheels their most basic wheels, but in this case, basic is anything but boring! These great wheels feature diamond machined aluminum alloy construction with a protective clear coat. Series 908 Yuma wheels also feature exposed lugs and large windows with a black accented step."

Sooo if you don't touch them up you are doing something wrong?

I think a jeep looks better with a scratched up ring on it. That is just me though,

Can't say I have ever had someone tell me how much uglier the scratches in my rims made them look.

I agree...most of the time. But with only 8000 miles I've done a pretty good job of knicking and scratching- don't want it to be a total POS at the end of my five year loan.
I can't tell you for sure OP- but pretty sure my buddy has the same wheels you have in the pic. And he wheels- hard. They still look pretty good.

Good to know. Machined wheels with clearcoat are pretty durable then...

I ordered 5 MT classic 3's, polished, and they are going to get dirty! I'll post pics in 2 weeks when I get them installed. Side note, back in the day black rims didn't exist, unless you had a can of black Krylon paint!

Look at the 17x8.5. That's what mine are. Got mine through Discount Tire, but 4wheel parts and others carry them.
Nitto Terra Grappler 295/70r17 on 'em.

Go for the chrome! When I bought my 08, I wanted black wheels and most folks were opposite. Now black is the standard. If you like the chrome look, works for me. And I'm glad there is not just one way to sport your jeeps. People have seemed to forget that jeeps are popular in the 'hood AND in the bayous and back roads.
LOL

I'm seeing a few local guys running their stock wheels, dipped flat black. Not my thing. Seems most like the "stealth" look... Saw one a Walmart, I was with 2 other guys and they were also thumbs down (maybe because we're all late 30's to 40)?

I want to swap in new wheels to distance myself from the hundreds of Jeeps I see that are running the same stock wheels, which I'm learning to dislike. I like black/machined lip, black with SS/lugs&cap or full machined wheel with black accents. Not going to go full "bright" wheels or flat black. In the middle with contrast.

My neighbor has a all black JKU with everything chromed that can be chromed. 4 in lift with 37s. He uses it mainly as a Mall Crawler. His license plate says HUMMER 4 on it. With all that chrome there is some similarity to a Hummy.
For me, as for chrome, well I can take it or leave it..................

I have put chrome wheels on pickups and cars in the past, not sure how good they'd look on a JK.

Anyone run chrome?

Feel free to post pics of your chrome wheels (if anyone has them) on your JK. I'd like to see how they look, is all.
I'm having my new wheels, polished Mickey Thompson Classic II's, installed Monday. I'll post pics when I get it back

Looks good ^. Thanks for the pics.

The Method Race Machined wheels might be my faves on this thread, but are a little pricier at around $180/wheel.

Due to the road salt here, if I buy chrome I definitely won't run them in the winter. Leaning towards machined and clearcoated aluminum.
