Anyone tow with a Barricade Bumper?

I purchased and installed bumper and was wondering if anyone has towed with it, I have a very small trailer, 6X8 and I haul my zero turn our maybe a few sheets of drywall. Just wondering how you guys hook up safety chains since Barricade didn't have have any hoops for them. Thank you

Mmmmm. No holes for chains? I just picked up the front and was looking to get a rear too.

I asked them about this on their online chat--here is there response "It is not tow rated. They are only rated for accessories"

Pretty much makes that bumper option useless for what I need.

I drilled two holes on each side of receiver for the chains. The bumper uses the stock receiver attachment points as well as the frame rails.

I can't recommend towing with a non-tow rated bumper. That being said, I move a 5x8 trailer with my non-tow rated bumper on my TJ. I use a penal hitch because it provides the drop I need and the extra holes in the hitch are what I use for my safety chains.

A good number of aftermarket bumper manufacturers don't want to spend the money and take on the liability of tow rating their bumpers. My recommendation would be to get a bumper with a cutout for a factory style hitch or prepare to cut and clearance the new bumper for a factory style hitch. Let me know if you have questions!

I was very disappointed yesterday when I tried to hook up my motorcycle trailer and learned it was not tow rated....

Looks like I'm gonna hack off the barricade receiver hitch and reuse the factory tow hitch.

@Ryan,
does extreme terrain not sell any tow rated bumpers? I wasn't able to locate any on your site.
I was planning to go with the Barricade Trail Force HD Rear Bumper w/ Tire Carrier, but if I just need to chop it up, it would not be worth it.

Some of the Smittybilt Bumpers we offer are tow rated. Other than that I think some Ace bumpers are rated? I'm not sure though. Unfortunately a lot of them aren't. Let me know what other questions you have or if you'd like a quote on anything!

FWIW I bought a barricade rear bumper (with tire carrier) last summer and it's already starting to rust. I've been washing my jeep once a week and this winter has been extremely mild (compared to most MN winters). Maybe I am doing something wrong but I've never had something rust this quick..
Finding out it is not tow rated makes me completely regret my purchase. I had plans to tow a small utility trailer this spring and did notice I do not have chain hooks... Really liked the bumper when I first bought it but seems to be popping up with issues quickly...

That is really surprising to hear! I'm sorry that you're seeing rust come through already. I wonder if there was an issue with the way the powder coat was applied to your bumper. Either way, I'd like to make it right.

I can get you out a touch up kit that includes enough paint to redo the entire bumper if you'd like. Another option would be to swap your bumper out with a new one. Shoot me a PM and let me know what you'd like me to do!

Will do! As I always I appreciate the customer service! Was not trying to blame XT so I hope it didn't come off that way. Your customer service has always been top notch!

Despite a Tow Rating, the Barricade rear looks like it will tow just fine to me. The only thing that could fail on the barricade rear would be the welds. I used to be a certified welder, these aren't the best welds in the world, but then again this bumper isn't that expensive. Ill roll the dice on towing with it, just keep an eye on the welds where the hitch meets the bumper. I plan to cut two one inch holes in the plate to hook the chains. Just my opinion though =)

I've have had the Barricade rear bumper and tire carrier on for a little over six months. Jeep is garage kept, and washed weekly. I noticed a section of powdercoat the size of my iPhone flaked off this weekend, and I can scrape a lot more off with my fingernail. Underneath it was nothing but red rust. I have ACE rocksliders that were installed at the same time, and an RSE full front bumper that show no signs of rust or finish failure.

ExtremeTerrain.com does carry some of our parts but we do not see them list our RH-5001, which is tow rated.

I'm very sorry to hear that! I'd be happy to send you out a touch up/paint kit to recoat the bumper, or replace with another one. Just shoot me a PM with your order number and what we can do to make this right!

Bringing back an old thread.
I am looking at this bumper/carrier combo. Wont be running more than a 33 at any time. As for the hitch. I have a 500lbs weight rated hitch rack for luggage and coolers. Will the hitch be able to handle this type of accessories? This would be taken on long trips but rack won't be used off-road.

For a 500lb hitch option I don't think you'll have any issues. I pulled a pretty heavy trailer for a while before seeing the non-rated rating. From my understanding, being not rated to tow doesn't mean it cannot but really means the manufacturer didn't pay to have it rated. After owning this bumper (still have it but not using currently) I do not see why it wouldn't be able to handle towing
