Anyone try these LED mirror housings?

I've seen that Oracle makes a replacement mirror housing with 12, 1-watt white LEDs, for additional illumination off to the sides.

But there's also another similar design, sold under various names, with an orange turn signal or marker light, and 9, supposedly 3-watt LEDs, and it costs much, much less.

Anyone try either of these?

Usually I don't mind paying more for quality, but the Oracle units cost four times as much! I'm thinking of trying the less-expensive units and see if they work well.

jsherm007, I had looked at your link too. It's sold under a different name, but for a little more money, and yes it does have many more reviews. But I was reading the reviews and they seem unrelated to the mirror. It seems that that Amazon listing lets you pick various items like headlights and fog lights, and most of the reviews are for those.

I ordered the $100 Sunpie so I guess I'll be the guinea pig! I'll first test the light output with a jumper back before deciding whether to install them on the Jeep, and I'll report back.

Update and pics.

Overall, I'm very very happy with these lights. They're also down to $100 on Amazon.

They seem to have roughly the same kind of output you'd expect from those universal 6LED generic Amazon/eBay flood lights people put on the back bumper for backup lights. Not blindingly bright, but throws plenty of light at whatever is on the side of the road just ahead of you.

It's a pure flood pattern, so light goes not only down to the road, but up to the trees. It comes out of the Jeep at something like a 45 degree angle. TIP: If you're parked and you just want to throw light directly to one side, when setting up a campsite for example, just fold the mirror to the closed position!

I have not yet tried the amber portion of the light. From my testing inside the house with a battery hooked up, I don't think it's going to be bright enough to be seen as a turn signal during the day. I think anyone buying these lights should plan on using the amber as a parking light, or not hooked up at all. But I could be wrong and I will test again now that they're installed.

Build quality of the housing is not as good as OEM, but it's still pretty good. You can see in the pics that the OEM housing is darker, and the aftermarket housing has a line on it where it came out of the mold. I'm really fussy about these things and I think it's good enough though.

Installation is hard and time consuming. Oracle has a video on Youtube about how to install theirs.

I used these 3-pin male/female connectors when bringing the wiring inside, this way the doors can still be easily removed. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L361DBK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pics:

The housing is a little larger than the OEM mirror glass. I took this pic from an exaggerated angle to show. But it looks just fine walking by the Jeep from the outside, and I can't see it at all from the driver's seat:

Excoastie, I can't seem to figure out how to edit my original post to correct the pictures. I will try again here. I hope I get it right this time!

Mirror housing installed:

Side-by-side (well, actually, top-by-bottom) comparison of the mirror housings:

Size of OEM mirror glass compared to size of aftermarket housing. I know I said this before, but I should repeat that I took this pic at a very extreme angle. In real-life situations, such as walking by the parked Jeep, or sitting in the driver's seat, this isn't really very noticeable at all:

Front view, with mirror lights, OEM fog lights (which I'll replace soon), and Morimoto LED headlights (low beam) all on. This should give you a good color comparison. NOTE: You'll see that the mirror lights don't look very bright in this picture. That's because they tend to project light at a 45 degree angle. The good news here is that if you forget them on while driving on the road, at least they're not likely to blind other drivers. (Also take a look at the white fence on the side for a good idea of the beam pattern.)

$100 shipped on Amazon. I installed them myself.

I'm a 12-volt electronics guy, so the door panel removal, wire routing, and electrical connections were all pretty familiar to me. I carefully, neatly followed the factory wiring all the way through the door and through the fabric channel where the wires leave the door. I used the connectors I linked to above so the door can still be easily removed.

The wires that come on the mirrors are only a couple of feet long, and there's no instructions for the wiring. But it's simple enough to figure out. Black is ground, white is positive for the white light, yellow is positive for the amber light.

The Youtube video from Oracle shows not only how to take the door panel and mirrors off, but how to take the mirrors apart. It's time consuming and requires patience and attention to detail, but it's not hard. I just brought a folding table next to the Jeep, put the radio on, and took my time.

The step in the video where he taps the mirror apart with a hammer, one mirror was somewhat difficult for me, and the second mirror took forever. I was propping it up at different angles and letting WD40 drip in and eventually after a good half hour of soaking, it then tapped apart for me.

what year did you install these in? I got a similar pair for my 2007 and once I removed the stock mirrors there doesn't seem to be a channel to go from the mirror area to the door panel area. it seems to be closed off on all sides feeling around the mirror mount holes.

Mine's a 2016 and has power heated mirrors. So I just followed the original wiring.

If yours doesn't have power mirrors, maybe the wire holes aren't there. You might look at eBay or Junkyard websites for pictures of power mirrors, or doors with power mirrors, then you can make your holes in the same place.
