Anyone with 2012 JK, lift & 35" tires?

Hi JK'ers-
If you've got the above equipment- did you need to replace the gears? If so- to what (4.56, 4.88?) Looking for someone with a 2012 JK since the tranny and engine are different from prior years. Also since Rubi's & JKUs have different gears and weight ratios.
I have the 3" Mopar/Terraflex lift in transit. But after receiving my new 305/12.5/17 Toyo MTs & wheels - I am freaking out that I've added too much weight and that I'll lose a ton of torque. I have the standard 3.21 gears and an automatic tranny. Since I am female I am not the most patient of human beings I don't want to wait until after doing the lift to find out I should've replaced the gearing.

I found the "Gear Ratio Question" thread which was very helpful (thanks MTH for the chart). I get the differences- just want to know how the standard 3.21 gears did with the modifications. And if I need to make MORE mods.

Thanks in advance and sorry for another lift post. Just couldn't find a post-er without a Rubicon or Unlimited.

I have 35" GYMTR and a 3" Teraflex lift on my automatic 2012 JKU. So far around town I've had no issues. Haven't climbed any serious hills on the open highway or on the trails either, but the engine seems pretty strong, unlike when I did the same with my 2dr. Had to change gears immediately. So far so good. Has anyone been on the trails with this configuration and like to give their own experiences?

I bought my 2012 Sport from the dealer a few weeks ago with a 4" mopar lift and 35" tires already installed. It still has more spunk that our 2011 Rubicon did before I put 35's on it. And no the dealer didn't regear.

So although it will help performance, you aren't going to necessarily be upset about your performance either. I guess it really gets down to just how serious you plan to get on the trail with your Jeep. For the average Jeeper on the trails, you'll be just fine. If you plan on getting seriously into rock crawling, the answer changes obviously.

We just bought a 2012 with a 2.5" skyjacker lift and 35" tires on 17" wheels.. Ours has the 3.73 gearing.. Wish we could have gotten the 4.10, but only offered in the Ruby.. Its no sports car by any stretch, but it still has good get up and go..
Our jeep also has a lifetime warranty, bumper to bumper for as long as we own it, so I'm really not worried about any issues that come down the road due to this configuration...

Thanks all. As JKUs I think you all have 3.73 gears stock. Hopefully with a lighter vehicle and no hard top I'll be good even with 3.21. Still might trade my Toyos for much lighter KM2s.
The lift has arrived- we'll know in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

Those look great, and are the tires I'm thinking of getting. What size wheel is that? What brand/make?

I mis-typed the size originally- the Toyo MTs are 35/12.5/17s. Wheels are MKW M80s in 17" X 9". I got a great deal at www.onlinetire.com. The wheels are steel and solid but FYI the center caps are plastic. At $112 a wheel I don't care but you might. Otherwise they look good with my silver JK and test-fit well.
Something to consider- The Toyos, though really highly rated, are 83 lbs. The wheels are 31 lbs. Hefty. I am concerned I'll be adding too much weight and will have to re-gear since I only have 3.21s. Not to mention that at over 100 lbs. I'll never be able to change a flat. If you have at least 3.73 gearing (per above) you'll probably be fine. Otherwise you might want to consider a lighter combo.
Online Tire has agreed to swap out to (19 lbs. lighter) KM2s for me for next to nothing. Decisions, decisions.

I bought my '12 Sport S with 3.21 and after lifting and going from stock to 35x12.50x15, I can tell you this.. The gearing was unbelieveably bad. Now mind you, with an automatic, it wouldn't be so bad (or embarrassing) as you don't have to worry about stalling at every stoplight and stop sign.. but you will notice a very noticable power drop. If you do any rock crawling or anything of that nature, you will find yourself REALLY pushing your engine to get over obstacles. But it would still be enough for most situations. Just not the really fun ones. Moving to a 5.13 was the most awesome change I've done yet. Most things I don't even need to touch the gas.

Long story short.. Since you've got an automatic, regearing is very much an optional choice. Would it help, make things easier, or restore lose power? Very much so. But unless you rock crawl.. I wouldn't worry about it.

$292 mounted/balanced- I brought them my TPMS's for install. They're local for me so no shipping costs. They price-matched the wheels at $112 but you'll need to call anyway since they're not a standard wheel for them. Call and ask for Edgar. He'll probably curse my name (Jennifer) but I am sure he'll give you the same deal.

You're not being passed by grannies in wheelchairs with the 3.21? Is your MPG higher than 10? (Seriously, kidding).
Probably hard to tell since you've only had it 3 weeks. At least I am not the only one messing with a perfectly good brand new vehicle right out of the gate. Nice!

The low gear isn't bad. I'm getting about 15 MPG city. That's better than my FJ Cruiser got. It get's up to speed effortlessly. It's not the quickest thing on the road, but I'm mellowing with age

4" Pro Comp lift. 315/70/17 tires on 17x9 wheels. Rubicon w/ 4.10 gears.

No gear change needed here. Love my Jeep!

If you have 3.21 gears and are adding 35's... you will undoubtedly want to re-gear!

I have a 2012 JKU with 3:73s and I wouldnt want to be in a lower numerical gear. That being said I haven't heard anyone talk about shifting their auto to stay in YHWH torque band. Your gear shift moves left and right when in drive. If you're at a low rpm just move it left and the "D" will change to a number for the gear you're in. Easy way to beat hills without having to stomp on it.

Even our 2010 Minivan powered motor on 37s had 373s for a year and it wasn't as slow as some of the above posters report with their Pornstar engines. Sad sad.

I don't mean to be rude by asking what you paid, but I inquired on a Mopar lift from my dealer and they quoted me $1,600. Just wondering if this is about in line or if I'm being taken for a ride with that quote.
