Anything for Jeeper to do in NYC?

Hey! I know this is completely random on a Jeep forum, but I am
meeting up with another Jeep friend in NYC tomorrow night & need suggestions on what to do. Being that I am in love with trails for solitude & quiet peaceful nature - I never take the train into the city - BUT she's flying into NY for business so the venue is non-negotiable.

Can anyone tell me what there is to do in NYC at night besides shop & drink that an active outdoorsy Jeeper might like (keep in mind we'll have our kids with us)?!!!

That's honestly about it in NYC. If you can get into Westchester there is Bear Mountain about 30 minutes north of the city and a ton of places to play out there. You'll want to eat beforehand as it is mainly a camp ground and only 1 real restaurant nearby. Hell any street in NYC you'll be able to use 4 wheel drive as the potholes are insane. I drive in daily to work at 4am and it is basically a 4x4 road course when there aren't too many cars on the road. Sorry I couldn't help with NYC though.

Central Park (maybe a free concert), walk 5th Ave, maybe some museums are open. The city empties out during the Summer, should be fun just walking around.

They turned the abandoned elevated railway on the lower west side into a long walking path, plants and all. Could be a cool thing for an out-of-towner. If you're into golf you could hit Chelsea piers golf range.

Nothing wrong with Empire State Building, Central Park, Yankee Stadium (go Sox), Radio City Music Hall. Plenty for one night. You don't have to 4 wheel everything, right? BTW having a Jeep in NYC is a good idea as you will find out just how big pot holes can be.

Drive around the city. Plenty of potholes, you'll feel like you're on a rough trail.

Remember, its for "an active outdoorsy Jeeper" ?

Not many rural trails in Manhattan. And the gyms with rockwalls get upset if you bring your Jeep in.

Meeting in Times Square so that's what we might wind up doing

Read about the pier - might be a fun spot for the kids - thanks!

You offering? Just have to fit it in between work, running karate school after work, 2 kids & their activities (my son has food issues so you'll want to plan for that at every meal), and an impossibly limited budget. Oh, and I hate crowds

I've never been, but you could go fishing in central park. I saw this article a while ago.

We just got back from NYC last weekend. I was actually surprised by the amount of JK's and JKU's around the city. I will admit that driving in NYC was an adventure and I really don't mean that in a good way. What is worse than driving in the city is the parking. Expect to pay through the nose everywhere you park. We finally decided to just park when we found a spot and take Taxi's everywhere. Everything is expensive and quite a few places only take cash, no debit or credit cards. So, make sure you have some green on you. There are plenty of free things to do in NYC including Central Park, Times Square and Little Italy. We toured Teddy Roosevelt's birthplace. Since that it a National Park it was free also. Stay safe and have a great trip!

^LMAO - I missed that yesterday! I actually was thinking a rock wall would be a fun activity (sans Jeep - I can see where that would be frowned upon!)!!!!

Dude, check out Bryant Park, great way to spend a nice evening. they have movies outdoors and there is a killer little bar with decent food. Nice ambiance with not too many hipsters.

Always places to eat and drink.......
Park the Jeep and take a double decker topless tour bus to ride around Manhattan.
While doing the bus ride.....write down anything or anyplace interesting, and the location, and then go back there by taxi, or more interesting.....do the subway.

I go to Manhattan and Queens regularly.......Queens is a sewer, but Manhattan is ALIVE !!
