I just got home from a week and a half in Moab and Ouray. While I was in Moab, I hit my exhaust hard enough to almost pinch the exhaust pipe shut. This isn't the first time either. I was able to bend it back open after working it with some bit screwdrivers and wrenches. I've seen skids for the muffler but it seems to me that you could make this part with a built in skid. Has anybody seen anything like that? What are your solutions for exhaust armor? Everything else on my Jeep is armored up except the exhaust.
I installed an aFe scorpion and it sits up high and tight and is not much louder than stock. I spent a week in Moab hitting the tougher trails and never hit it once.
Yep - time for high clearance exhaust. The tail pipes can be rebent and cut back a number of times on the stock one before it's toast. The stock location and size is so awful for an Offroad vehicle - a total "what were the engineers thinking" head scratcher.
What was left of my stock muffler lol - and after installing Magnaflow Rock Crawler.
Another plus to a high tuck is all the space you get back from that tin can being ousted from the rear. It made mounting some rock lights and doing bumper work so much easier.
Current build: 2016 JKUR Hardrock #HardrockREVjku

I run a dynomax 39522 Matt. It exits before the axle and is a bit loud, so you may not like it. I believe there are some quieter options that do the same thing...plus it opens up a bunch of space where the old exhaust went.
Yeah. My Jeep is loud enough so I'm not looking to purposely make it even louder. HA! But I like the tucked up design. I'd guess Chrysler made it the way they did because it's quietest that way and 99% of the people that buy a Jeep would never hit the exhaust on anything.
I like quiet too. I am 58yoa and did not want loud the aFe has a nice quiet cruise with no drone and only is louder than stock when really getting on it.
I squashed my tip as well. I ended up cutting about 4" off of it, and at a very steep angle so that if it ever made contact with anything again, it would not squish closed.
