at LAST!!! a REPAIR!!!!

so at 54000 miles on my 08JK, I finally have a repair:

rear axle seal....

local mechanic quote is "pushing towards $150 parts & labor".

From the review of the specs, it is beyond my feeble 2-left-thumbs-in-the-driveway-dirt skill level.....

thanks for the idea......I did a youtube seach & found 02TJ replacement video that was quite instructional.

Reviewed my skill level, probably adequate;

place to do job, driveway dirt;

lift, absent;

jack stands, appear inadequate--I'm too stove up to crawl around under it;

video has strange device called "brake drum" suggesting protocol variance is possible;

local mechanic advises need for hydraulic press to remove the seal/bearing involved;

Flat rate book shows "1.1 hours"....it would take me that long alone to get it jacked up & figure out where to drain the diff lube....without figuring in how long to clean up after stepping in the pan or kicking it over....

Does look like 'easy enough' project....yet those very things have trapped me in the past and reveal how ill-prepared my tool-and-skill set is for doing such.
