Hey girls and guys,

Have any of you installed a mesh sunscreen and/or rear/side cargo net that fits great on your 2017 without modifications or workarounds? I just sent the Dirty Dog items back I received that claimed to fit 2017 models, but after watching their videos (which were made in 2012), and trying to install the sunscreen.....they simply didn't fit on my 2017. Primarily because the plastic trim around the roller corners and sound bar don't just easily separate from the roll bar like older models. After stretching straps around the only way they would go without destroying my plastic trim pieces the straps were too short and/or the screen was no longer positioned properly. Also, the cargo net system apparently required a soft top tailgate retainer set clip, kit said nothing about "hey if you have a hard top this won't work unless you order these clips separately". The Quadratec description specifically said no additional brackets or tools needed....this will work out of the box on your Jeep. After the sunscreen fiasco that was the final kicker and I shipped it back for a refund on both.

So.....would love to hear some actual recommendations for both sunscreens and cargo nets that you are using and happy with. My dogs are dying to ride in the new Jeep top down. I'm sure some are more universal than others. Many thanks

I use a Dirty Dog rear cargo web when I use my soft top for my 2016 JKU 75AE, it's excellent. Unless I'm reading OP incorrectly not sure why you need netting while using hardtop? At any rate, used Dirty Dog for my old TJ and my new JKU, works great, dogs are happy during soft top season.

I, as well, recommend spiderweb shade. For the cargo net, check out motion tech. Great product.

Don't need cargo net with hardtop. Point was hardtop owners don't have tailgate retainer clips unless they also own a soft top, so the DD kit, a pricey one at that, doesn't work unless you have those clips and they should be included (or Quadratec should change their description and notify you to purchase them separately). One of many problems I encountered with DD products on my Jeep.

trim differences

For example, attached is a pic of spiderwebs tutorial to install sunscreen. As you can see straps can easily be fed between roll bar, door moulding, etc in their illustration. Not the case on my Jeep unless I either yanked all my trim out or cords were long enough to wrap all the way around the corner piece which would also look ugly. It's even worse with trim around rear doors and sound bar. Impossible to just feed something through back there around corners.

That being said, the JTop application looked like it would be more universal.

Update: Just installed the Smittybilt C.RES2 HD, easy enough install though plan on 1-2 hours to do it yourself the first time (would go much faster with 2 people). Top/Center part went on great, no problems. Side panels weren't the best design....you need to drill holes in the rear sport bar to install a cheap footman loop in order to keep back of side panels from riding up, otherwise they are extremely loose and will pop off. Also, side panels require pulling up carpet to attach a J hook to the rear door striker brace plate. Carpet has to be trimmed if you want it to close back up snug. Does not require any tailgate bar or retainer clips.

Hi there,

Thanks for the info regarding your install. This is the first I am hearing about fitment issues on the 2017. We have forwarded this to Dirty Dog 4x4 to review.

The rear netting includes a tubular tailgate bar that slides through the bottom. If that was not included it should have been and I do apologize for that. The only additional parts one would want for a hard top removed Jeep are the factory soft top tailgate bar brackets.

I have always had great results with Dirty Dog products on my Jeeps.

If I can help with anything specifically please let me know.

Thanks & have a great day!
