I'm finalizing details on what I'll order for my JKU in the next couple months. I'm debating whether to order with premium audio. Background: I have reasonable experience with installing car audio in many different vehicles. I really like very good sound and will eventually get there one way or another. I'm leaning toward starting with the 130 and upgrading myself later, but was pleasantly surprised with the decent sound of the "premium audio" in a '12 JKU.
-Do non-premium-audio equipped JKUs have the wiring in place for the sub in the rear?
-Does premium audio do anything other than the amplified sub and upgraded speakers?
-Is the audio quality from the 430 significantly better than the 130 - and how does it compare to a mid-range aftermarket unit? I've used them in other Dodge products and surprisingly, I find the interface fairly easy to use.
-Is it possible/reasonable to 'hot wire' any of the stock radios? I have the Sony unit I put in my TJ wired this way so I can listen to music on the beach while keeping the key safely OUT of the ignition. I'm smart enough to turn it off when I get out - used to it from 80s VWs. It seems like this would work pretty well with the 130, but how 'bout the 430? Would I be opening a different can of worms? If so, I'll definitely go with an aftermarket head unit and just order the 130.
Thanks, in advance, for sharing any experiences you may have had.
