Auto-Locks Possessed by Demons?

What the heck triggers the auto-locks? Sometimes it happens as I'm pulling out of my drive way, sometimes it takes 2 miles to kick in. Sometimes it happens as I'm accelerating, sometimes it happens when I'm coasting.

I've been trying to correlate driving distance / RPM / speed, etc.. but it seems completely random!

To my knowledge they are triggered by a certain speed.

Yeah in any cars that I've owned with them, they usually kick on around ~20mph.

Hi boon,

It's supposed to be speed based. Mine is set on the EVIC for 15mph. HOWEVER, they don't work like they are supposed to! I have found after 6,500 miles that it's acceleration based. If I stomp on the gas they will lock if they weren't already. I'm pretty light footed and can go all the way to work over 20 miles away on the freeway doing 65mph and they still wont lock. If I happen to stomp the gas pedal they will then lock.

Mine do it at random also. Sometimes they dont lock at all. My wife and I drove for probably half an hour and then went wheeling the other and I put it into 4lo to go down a crappy hill and halfway down, thwump, they lock. My wife looks at me and says, " lotta good their gonna do us here''. Definitely possessed.

Lol! A friend once commented "what? Like, welcome to the ghetto? Why did they not lock until now?!" We were miles down the road hitting speeds nearing 50.. And they finally locked after turning a corner, at a slow speed, under the railroad bridge.

Mine are the same way. I have had them lock right out of the drive, halfway to work, pulling in the parking lot at work...sometimes not at all. I wish I knew what the trigger was.

Automatic Door Locks — If Equipped

The doors will lock automatically on vehicles with power door locks if all of the following conditions are met:
  • The “Automatic Door Locks” feature is enabled.
  • The transmission is in gear.
  • All doors are closed.
  • The throttle is pressed.
  • The vehicle speed is above 15 mph (24 km/h).
  • The doors were not previously locked using the power door lock switch or Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter

The manual may say one thing but what actually happens is frequently different.

I've played with seeing what it takes to get the doors to lock. I've sloooowly gotten up to speed, well beyond 15 mph, and they still didn't lock. It seems that if I press on the gas pedal a bit harder it triggers the locks as long as all the other conditions in the above list have been met.

I'm guessing "The Throttle is Pressed" one means there is a trigger at 3/4 throttle or something I rarely make it to... But Even then this doesn't seem to completely line up with reality. I think there's a bug in it's coding somewhere.
