Auto temperture control and air filter

How big of a deal is the automatic temperture control and air filter option on a new 2012 unlimited rubicon? Is this option worth getting?

Many like the auto temp control. I HATE it! I like a lot of air blowing on me, maybe because of a lifetime of Jeeps and convertible sports cars. You just can't get the temp you want on the air with the computer constantly trying to set if for you!

You still get the air filtration system with regular air controls, they just don't put in the $10 worth of filters, which you can buy anywhere.....

Do yourself a favor, skip the auto temp control and just buy and install the filters....

Here's how to install the filters:

Bill, you are right on. Not worth it even if it was free.

I've always had auto air on all my cars and like it. My Jeep had the option already on it so..... That being said if I was ordering my Jeep it's not worth the money. With the top down it's not that accurate.

Chris, maybe I don't know how to get the most out of the auto control. If you will please give us a tutorial. I have read the manual but it has not been that helpful.

I have it on mine and it works great. Haven't tried with the roof off yet. I find to just leave it on auto and if u want more air blowing, turn the temp up a notch or two. If you want it to blow full, turn the temp to the red dot. If you are warm, turn it down a notch.

I live in central Alberta and its been on average about -10C since I got it. I leave it at 26C and it always seems to work nice. Plus, when the engine is still cold, it doesn't blow but as it slowly warms up, it blows more and more air.

Also consider the warnings from oilwell1415 in this thread:

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/air...ng-115785.html

I decided not to go with auto air but I will add the filters when my Jeep arrives.

I've had it on 2 former cars. Did not order it on our yet to be delivered Rubicon.

About the only time I find it helpful is to hold off blowing air on cold days until the heater core is warm enough to supply the set temp. Outside of this, I find that I play with the temp setting as much as a "normal" HVAC system. As such, most of mine are not in "AUTO" and have defaulted to a normal system.

A car is not like a house. Radiant heat from the sun can play a big factor on how much and how cold of air you want, not to mention that you are often in and out of the sun as you drive through clouds, turn in various directions, etc. I think many that like them may live in colder environs where I can see a small benefit.

I bought my Rubi off the lot and it had the auto temp control option. I have used it maybe once. I don't see a need for it and wouldn't order it as an option.

At least I can override it and operate it manually.

Yes, you can operate the fan speed and air source manually.

But, not the temperature. I find it a constant argument with a computer as to what the heck temperature I want the incoming air to be.....

I have had the dang thing refuse to give me cool air (on the blue dot setting) even when it was hot in the cab, on a number of occasions.... Frustrating!

The only thing that I don't think is perfect with my Jeep.

I can manually determine temperature to a certain extent. For example on a cold morning when the outside temp is 20F, I set the temp knob all the way to the right for max heat. Once my jeep warms up inside, I bring the knob back to about the mid-point. The air from the vents goes from hot to slightly warm. But anywhere between about 76 and max, the air is plain hot. But I would agree it isn't the same as a straight manual system.

Never had it refuse to blow cool air even when it was hot in the cab.

I could try? (though you might be being sarcastic... if so )

Otherwise....

For me I honestly just set it at 'Auto', turn the temperature to '70' and put the defrost on auto; it takes care of the rest.

The only real thing that sometimes bugs me is when it starts to turn cold to keep the internal temp at what I set. So I either shut it off, or just turn it slightly up. When it's really cold I turn on my seat heaters... or remote start it.

Anyone know if you can add this after-the-fact? I have a 12 Sport S and the auto temp was not an option at that time.

Pick and choose your battles wisely Billy Bob Joe Sue. Arguing with a computer today is a losing battle. Perhaps when computers converse with us like on Star Trek I can hear Scotty in the background...Computer, give me the formula for transparent aluminum..computer COMPUTER..I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way, how quaint.

When compared to more "advanced" auto temp controls in prior vehicles I have had my JKU's is pretty good, not perfect but pretty good, given the size of the interior space and the fact you only have vents in the front.

I usually just leave the fan on auto and the temp around 68-70. The vents I usually have on floor or a floor/front mix and I remain pretty comfortable. I have not gone through a summer yet so we'll see in that regard shortly.

As far as using the auto temp with the top off you are fighting a loosing battle. Assuming that Jeeps auto temp set up is like pretty much everyone else’s it takes the average temperature from where ever the sensor is located at ( I haven't the faintest) and adjust the settings from there. If you have the top off, or even the freedom/sun rider tops off the temperature will never really "settle" at an average so the auto setting will likely be all over the place as it tries to compensate.

I like it. I just keep everything in 'auto' and the Temp. dial at 74 and forget about it. I always switch OFF the AC when I have windows open or top down..so thats not a problem.

I love it on my jeep and would hate to be with out it. Work great with the remote start. I keep it on about 68 to 72 year round with both others nobs on auto. I never go topless or with the windows down as it's always cold or hot or windy and would suck at 75 mph in any weather. The top and panels will never be removed from my jeep as long as I own it. Don't leak and I don't want it to. It's just like it come from the factory. Virgin top. Never been touched!

Dang it

I did ask when I had my heated seats installed and they didn't know for sure but they suspected it could not be done. I don't really understand how "the ducting was different" though??
