Auto Trans, RPMs and Horsepower

In a round about way, I think I'm validating how much of a sissy driver I am.

I have a new 2012 jku and was looking at one of the horsepower charts someone posted. If I read it correctly, much of the horsepower occurs above the 2000 rpm and reaches max at 6300.

Here's the loaded question, is it safe for the engine to rev that high for any length of time? When would I need that? I've got plenty of pickup and passing power at 4000-5000 for just a few seconds driving 65 on a major highway to pass people going 70-75. It get's me up to 80 in a couple of seconds. I don't normally drive it like I stole it but not doing only 55 on the highway either.

What am I missing?

Perhaps with a manual, you can keep it in a lower gear to rev that high but that's not an option with the auto.

Thanks...

Yes, it is an option with the 2012 auto. You can limit the top gear allowed with the shifter if you feel the need for higher RPMs than the auto wants to give you.

Nice if you really feel like flying up a hill without regard for fuel use.

Stop thinking so much and just drive.
