Exclamation Automatic Climate Control

Anybody have information for the Automatic Climate Control install? Looking to have this added on, and no luck finding any information on the forum. Looking for costs (and install). Worth it?

Installed in a current Jeep?

Forget about it....

From what I understand, there are too many different parts (it is more than just the temp panel).

Really? Was hoping for just 3 knobs, a sensor, and a chip of sorts to install.

Automatic Climate Control

There's a thread over on JK-Forum where a guy put it in his. He added the controls and sensor on the dash, but his already came with auto headlights, so it was just swapping the top sensor. He never did get the cabin temp sensor installed I think because he couldn't find a plug in his dash for it. Also sounded like from the report it worked so-so without that sensor. Based on the general sketchyness of that and wanting auto headlights as well it's one of the reasons that drive me to Sahara over Sport so I could have it all factory installed.

Side note, you can install the cabin filters that come with ATC no problem. Just buy the 2 filters and slide them right in.

Can't tell whether it's worth it without knowing the pain involved, but I'll tell you I leave this on auto and forget it.

It works great, defrost everything evenly, keeps the heat even without blasting in the face, etc.

I wouldn't have ordered it but it came on the Jeep I purchased and I'm glad I have it.

I agree, we enjoy it too. It's like Ron Popeil's Ronco Rotisserie thing, just "Set it, and forget it!"

Ha! Some people hate it, some love it. I however have to get it because the significant other will either leave the AC or Heater consistently and be oblivious to it. It's especially more prevalent (to me, in the least) in SoCal where leaving either the heater/AC on or off would be so difficult to catch because of the moderate temperatures. Can you imagine all the Gas wasted due to ADD?

In any which case, it's great to know that the Automatic Climate control works in conjunctions with the headlight sensor. Sheesh! Which other functions does the JK have? I thought it was just seat heating, stereo/radio?! Didn't even know about the daylight running lamps.

Hope to find our a price for install soon (apparently I have to find it for both the lamp sensor now also), and hope to find out the cost to complete is inexpensive... not to mention easy to install. (I justify this purchase with the amount of gas dollars I'm saving with her not turning off the AC)!

Thanks guys, let me know of anything! Still searching! (even called the dealer, and they didn't know how much... go figure)

*Not to mention installing it after the fact - dealers NEVER take the precaution in replacing all brackets, grommets, fasteners etc. (in my experience anyway)

You do realize of course that the ACC will cycle the AC compressor on and off depending on the temp. So your significant other is driving the Jeep and cranks the temp knob down because its a mild day. The ACC will use the AC. IMO you are going to spend money to get the same result.

Been trying to like it. Not there yet. I like controlling my own climate. When I do set it to auto I am jacking with it more than when I manually set it. Live and learn. Waste of $$$ for me.

Easy and Cheap:

Automatic Climate Control
********************************
Control Units......
IF you have Rear Def on Hard Top and Heated Mirrors:
55111170AF $70.25
IF you Do Not Have Rear Def:
55111169AF $70.25
****************************
Sun Sensor:
IF you have Auto HeadLights

55111275AA ; 55111902AA; 55111902AB $16.50

IF you Do Not Have Auto HeadLights

55111274AA $13.60

Cabin Air Temp:

55111178AC $33.35

Around $100....If you look on eBay and/or non-Mopar brand parts, even Lower.

Other Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep use the same parts, in fact these parts are Hand me parts from Models as old as 2006 Models....

If your current Wire Harness doesn't have the sensor wires, easy to add...this is a Self Contained control unit. Good Luck

Agreed, I prefer the manual controls myself as well. The Jeep already has a mind of its own with just about everything else

You are correct sir. I plead guilty. As a side note (and another violation of the theme) I have learned to like the auto climate control. Doesn't relieve me of my guilt but may reinforce the OP's resolution to add the feature.

LOL.....Hey , Man enough to admit the fancy things...lol....
Honestly, it's a feature that is a unthought of Safety feature....as long as it's in auto and forgotten, your windows etc stay defogged, that is the ATC's main Job, alot have a hard time understanding why the Compressor is used alot...LOL

Just because some of us have no use for ATC, doesn't mean we are hating on the OP. None of us knew what was needed to make it work. But what we like/think about a mod is valid. If we only painted a rosy picture, members would have to find out the hard way that there are often not just pros but also cons to a mod. I tried to tactfully explain that. I believe the OP wanted ATC in the hopes of not having the compressor running all the time because his significant other leaves the AC on. But there will be times in Auto when the compressor will be continually cycling. Seems to me the end result is the same.

If my windows start to fog, I have no problems manually adjusting the controls to prevent this.

The whole point of it called a safety feature is, not distracting your eyes off the road!!!!!

Well I for one can adjust the knobs without taking my eyes off the road. And it didn't take me long to memorize the positions.

But if you consider ATC a safety feature, more power to ya!!!!

As to your last question...worth it? To me YES! I have a jkus w/climate control and my wife has a JKUS without it. I really like being able to remote start mine (both have it) with CC and have it warm up in the morn without worring about it getting too hot or too cold. Definatly worth getting IMHO.

It was not a must have on my 12 or 13 but was glad I got it on my 13. Its not a high priority feature until you have it. No matter the season, I'm always comfortable.

I wasn't going to get it added as an option when I ordered mainly because I've never had it on any vehicle and didn't know what it did. Glad I got it because it's one less thing to regret, one less thing to try an install later and one less thing to screw with when I'm driving. Set it and forget it.

With the temperature swings in Texas I have learned to like it because like Ron Popeil says:

I got ordered and received my 2015 Rubicon HR about a month ago. LOVE IT!!! However, one thing got missed during the ordering process: auto climate control. I don't know how it happened. Dealer says he went through all the options during the order process. My Rubicon HR is loaded. I said yes to pretty much everything (except painted fenders and hard top... I like the contrast). I had auto climate control in my Dodge RAM pickup. Absolutely loved it! I would have never said no to auto climate control if I was asked. OK, enough of my whining. This is an old-ish thread. Did anyone actually follow through with installing this? Please share your experience!!!
