Pretty sure I've seen a couple people install the kit in a 13 with no problem.

The remote start is not an available add-on from the factory for the Unlimited Sport as far as I can tell. Can anyone tell me if any of these kits will work with the Sport model?

Thanks!

You have to have the convenience group
(Power Convenience Group $ 795
Auto Dimming Mirror with Reading Lamp
Power Heated Mirrors
Power Windows with Front One-Touch-
Down Feature
Power Door Locks
Remote Keyless Entry
Security Alarm )
and the auto transmission.

It will work on a Sport if you have the things mentioned above (power group with keyless entry and auto)

Thanks guys. Just ordered a new Sport S Unlimited from the dealer and they are going to install it for me before I pick it up. It's the one thing I really wish we had on our current car. Definitely a first world problem, but it sucks running outside to start the car 10 minutes before I leave for work in the winter.

Is this really an issue? Do you need to start your Jeep from 1000ft away?
I've never been more than 100ft from mine.

I think of it as....the more range the better. Mostly so that it can be started through the 6th floor window of an office building when the vehicle is sitting in a parking lot in bad weather.

My JKU came with remote start and I thought it was funny at first and I would have never paid to have it installed, but im glad I have it now. Used it a couple times in the morning to defrost windows. Now its just part of my morning. Cant wait to use it in the summer. No more waitting for a/c to kick in.

Yup. Had one installed in my 2010, worked great. You need to follow a procedure to arm it. Park the Jeep, put it in neutral, park brake on, depress the door lock button on the fob, remove key, exit vehicle ensuring doors are locked, once out depress lock button on fob one more time, vehicle will shut down, lights flash, horn honks, fob beeps, and starter will be set. As I parked out of site and at a great distance at work I got the model with 900' range and two way fobs. That way the fob would alert me when my Jeep started and give me a running time count. I could increase the range by holding the fob to my chin and pressing the start button. No kidding!

Looks like the Mopar part number for the 2013's is finally available. Not sure what's different than the 2011-12 part, but whatever it is, it's apparently worth $2 more. Dealer's got mine on order!

Just purchased an after-market Compustar remote start from local retailer. So far...fail, system sets off panic alarm, as well overheat and low tire warning lights intermittently display. The seems to require a call to the manufacturer in AK, more to come!

I scared the hell out of some people hanging out by my Jeep the other day in a parking lot. One actually jumped. Wife and I tried hard not to laugh. Money well spent.

Same thing here, my 2013 had the remote start installed and I wanted 4.10's so I went with it, I use it all the time and I love starting it when my mother is near...to see her jump and grab her chest is priceless....Yes I am JUST this immature.

Crap I want one for my manual but that seems to be quite the procedure. Are they all similar to this?

I had a local stereo/alarm shop install a Compustar system on my 2013. So far it has worked perfectly. Once in awhile the little security light on the right side of the dash will be on when I get in. I just touch the brake, Jeep dies and I restart with the key. Happens maybe 10% of the time..

Best part it was only $285. installed. I work at a Power Plant, and before I head to the locker room I look out the window 500' away and I start my Jeep. 10 minutes later I am headed out to a warm or cool Jeep. I also park in a garage, in the morning I just raise the door and push the magic button. Time I pack my lunch and pour a cup of coffee the Jeep is ready to go..

If you have an automatic JK this works great and doesn't cost a fortune.

You don't really want too much range on these things. Imagine if you started the engine by simply bumping the key in your pocket without notice; it could literally start and run for hours and you wouldn't even noticing.

The remote start on my 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT was very sensitive and it happened several times that I or my dad found the engine running coming out of church or Macy's. It was a bit unnerving.

With the JKs, you really have to get within 500 feet of it and aim the key well at the vehicle to start it and press the button twice, otherwise it won't. I like it this way much better.

Factory ones time out after 15 minutes so it's not a worry. Most aftermarket ones are similar.

Some of the prices quoted were mind blowing to me. I ordered this OEM remote starter for my 2016 JK Unlimited and it took about 15 minutes for me to put it in place: http://amzn.to/2fOz5Yo

It was completely plug and play. There is a good youtube video showing how to do it but it is straight forward.

Total cost with shipping was just under $93.

There is also the fortin remote start (aftermarket). plug and play! they also have a long range remote kit that is good for 3000m. I've had this for 2 winters now and is a god send.

3 things about the factory remote start i dont like.
- key fob range sucks
- if you get a Check Engine Light it disables the remote start
- expensive

Automatic remote starter?

I bought this one several months ago. $99.99. Great price and SUPER EASY to install. Took like 20 minutes. Truly a simple plug and play using OEM key fob. YouTube videos for installation are available as well. No complaints to date.

Hi All new user here, After checking out some threads here on remote start i'm thinking the fortin unit. The fortin website does not list a remote starter for the 2017 jku yet. I sent them an email and they replied that I could try it but they have not installed one on a 2017 yet so they dont know if it will work ?

Also is it true that on the 2017 the steering wheel will need to be removed ?

Anybody install remote start on 2017 yet ? which model remote start ?

Thanks much
