I did a little searching and didn't come up with much.
I've never really been a fan of relying on idiot lights to tell me when something is wrong. I would really rather have a gauge tell me what's going on so I can see what's changing long before it becomes a problem.
I have a basic sport model that has the obligatory fuel level and coolant temp gauges. I want to add a voltmeter (which is trivially easy) and an oil pressure gauge. Last time I installed gauges was on a much older vehicle and I was able to use a mechanical/electrical sender to get my oil pressure and send it up to a basic gauge. I've seen gauges for modern vehicles that can tap into the CAN bus and pick up the oil pressure signal from the OEM sensor. But they're usually custom made for a particular vehicle/gauge cluster.
Does anyone have any experience adding an oil pressure gauge to the CAN bus on a '12 or newer Jeep? What about tapping into the engine directly with a "regular" gauge sender that I can hard wire into a basic gauge? Is that a viable option on the Pentastar?
Any advice from someone who's already been there and done that is most welcome.
