I don't know how he got the pic. It is a small town and it was big news - I also posted that particular photo on my fb page - I have several more. Look in the background - does that look like a hotel parking lot or a neighborhood?

No it's totally not a hotel parking lot. Just seems weird someone would take a pic from your FB, post it on the same forum you're on and make up a bad story about it

I tried to post some more of the photos but I was too whipped to figure out how to do it. It has been an awful day - AND even worse? Finding out that this has been happening in other JEEPS. Just glad my 4 boys were already at school when it decided to go up in flames.- They are heartsick over this. And FYI - Its been a LONG time since this chick has been in a hotel on a Tuesday morning....

Makes me wonder, people leave dogs or kids in their vehicles all the time & even parking in your garage at home could be devistating with something catching on fire like that. Sorry for your loss coopgirljeep

It amazes me that someone would hijack a picture and make a bogus thread. When was the last time you saw a motel in a residental street with a nice house across the street anyway? As for Coopgirljeep, that sucks that it happened, just glad it happened with nobosy harmed. The Jeep can be replaced.

I'm laughing because you called out the OP...not cuz your Jeep burned.

The fire issue, while not new, is starting to gain quite a bit of traction lately. Here are a couple links to an investigative report being cunducted by WCNC-TV in Charlotte:

Investigation underway after man's Jeep catches fire | WCNC.com Charlotte

Second Jeep reportedly catches fire in Michigan | WCNC.com Charlotte

Was anyone smoking inside the Jeep? Maybe someone tossed in a cigarette since the top was off? Just asking.

All the discussion on the auto trans, which I'm sure they burn up real good also, she said her's is a 6spd. Her JK is definately parked in the driveway in a residential area. I guess the OP has some issues.

Atleast no one got hurt, and I'm glad I carry an extinguisher, and it looks like it was caught early. Running up to put out a fully involved vehicle fire and having the driveshaft explode will cause a little puckering!

Thanks everyone, everything always seems better after a nights sleep. Except for the mini van rental, sigh.... But I do have good insurance and I am sure they will sort this out quickly. I just really want to know why?

Get your insurance money and buy another one. that's what I would do. down the road if Chrysler admits they have a problem, then maybe your insurance company can recover their loss.

As others have said, sorry for the loss, and SUPER glad nobody was harmed.

Since yours is a 6-speed and my understanding about the hot oil was only for the automatics, I'm very interested to know what happened here.

Plus, even if it was an auto, by your account it doesn't seem like you would have caused the hot oil condition that afflicted others. At least not without some malfunction.

Hope you get it all sorted out soon.

Please keep us posted if you're so inclined.

Jeep Wrangler spontaneous fires have been an issue for a while
Jeep Wrangler Fire Risk Investigated by NHTSA - AboutLawsuits.com

This resulted in a recall of 2006 through 2008 Wranglers
Chrysler Recalls Jeeps for Transmission Fires | TheDetroitBureau.com

Actually, in 2011 China suspended importation of Wrangler because of fire incidents
Report: China suspends Jeep Wrangler importation over safety concerns

Given that the problem kept presenting itself after 2008 as shown by the Chinese authorities decision, looks like the "band aids" applied after the first recall did not solve the problem.

Wait - hold up. I don't know her, I'm not the OP, nor did I post anything other than just expressing my empathy for her burned out JEEP. If you follow the thread back to the first post before you post, you might be less confused.

Google "2010 jeep wrangler sport gone", and it will lead you to a thread on another jeep forum that discusses another jeep that caught on fire. The OP said that he was told that leaves collected under a skid plate caught fire.

I have been reading alot about this issue lately, so I had a case opend with Crysler, took my 11 JKUR in for a soft top / o2 sensor recal, and the dealer told me he fixed the problem regarding the hot oil. How did you do that i asked, he said he re-programed the computer to have the idiot light come on sooner indcating hot oil. Then I asked if adding an aux cooler would void my warranty, he said adding an aux cooler would void the warranty withoout a doubt. I didn't like his answer.

I was wondering because I didn't see any hotels in the pic.

Thats messed up when CHINA, of all places, bans something for safety concerns

The fire investgator said that it appeared to have started in the center of the dash. With that info and the fact that the motor is intact and it is a 6-spd it would have to be electrical related. Any aftermarket electrical add-ons? Stereo, lights, etc?
