Can anyone help me out on wiring. I have the rear view mirror monitor. It has 3 wires red black and blue. Red and black are obvious but the blue. Do I have to run this to the reverse lights. Notice the camera only has black and red. So constant ground and key on power. Think only confusion is blue wire.
The wire that makes the reverse light come on originates from the front. There's no need to run a parallel wire all the way back to the tail light area if you can find that wire up front.
On the passenger side near the tail light the +12V reverse light wire is white with a grey stripe. See if you can find a wire bundle on the passenger side foot area that looks like it goes toward the back and look for a similar color wire in it. If you have a multimeter you can test the wire to see if it's the right one by poking it with a straight pin and clipping the meter lead to it and shift into reverse.
So I've got the rear view mirror camera working and it's great. turns on when placed in reverse and camera is good enough for now. I placed the camera on the tow hitch for now using an old cap I had.
So now I want to be able to have the camera come not only in reverse but also if I turn on the rear view mirror camera when driving. I noticed that the video camera lead (the one that connects to the yellow RCA plugs) also had a red wire that appears to run the whole length of the yellow rca cable. I see 2" coming out of both ends. Any thoughts what this would be for
Cheers
Al
