Backspacing

Help Please,
One of my good buddies has an 07' Rubi W/ 3.5" of lift and 35"s. His wife is going to surprise him with some new 17" rims. What is the backspacing? I know it's a 5x5 bolt pattern. I drive a TJ, so I am not much help.

Thanks...

depends

it depends on what you are asking. are you asking what the original backspacing is or what backspacing is recommended for the after market tires? i am assuming the latter; in that case, you will need at least 4.75", but 4.5" is better. hope this helps.

fyi

just in case you are asking about the original backspacing, it depends on what size wheel you have:

factory 16" wheels are 7" wide with 5.5" backspacing.

factory 17" wheels are 7.5" wide with 6" backspacing.

factory 18" wheels are 7.5" wide with 6" backspacing

In that case, 4.75" should be your minimum. I have 4.75" and found that the 32X11.5 tires I have are barely clearing: any wider and the tire will contact the rear upper sway bar links. I would like to put 33X12.5 tires but will have to bolt the sway bar links on the inside of the sway bar rather than the outside. Hopefully this will provide me with the needed clearance.
