Plug and play, you're good to go. They do have a USB port so if a firmware update were needed, it has the ability.

Jeff thanks for the info. I think it will be installed this week, along with the camera. Any suggestions for mounting locations. Been checcking out a bunch of threads....,but no clear "best" place. Mine has the guide lines etc

I've had good luck mounting it on the bumper just below the spare tire. Looks factory and give a good view of everything behind you.

Got my replacement Lockpick in the mail yesterday. I didn't wait a month to hook this one up. Got it in today...this one works...so far. I have not purchased a rear view camera because I still can't decide where to mount it.

Bumper?
Spare tire carrier?
License plate?

CCD vs CMOS?

Since you did twice, how hard is the actual install?

Of Lockpick? Not very hard...but I've taken my radio out a dozen times....so it is basicallythe same process....which also isn't very hard.

4 screws for the dash, 4 screws for the radio.

Hardest part was choosing which way I would run the wires.

Running the wires was a PITA (had to use extra wire as well, and I wanted it wired directly to Lockpick), but I finally got my CCD camera installed. I'll post pics tomorrow, but it looks pretty good.

I ended up with this one from Amazon for $22.00 (free 2 day shipping with Prime):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It does not have infrared, but it really does not need it.

I love that I'll be able to turn it on whenever I want to.

For my own curiosity, I assume one of those RCA plugs carries the 12volts to the camera, and one carries the video signal back to the radio. I assume the outer part of the RCA cable is the ground. But, It appears the wires are not shielded.

Does the lock pick have some fancy video filtering in it to help for the noise that wire may pick up ?

I tried to get some pics, but I kept getting a glare from the sun. In person, the picture is really, really good.

There is more to the unit than what is shown.....and there are no instructions (which was a bit confusing at first.

There is another connector (not shown) which connects to the power output. That has about 5 feet of 12v wire and ground wire.

There is also a a long (15-20 feet) RCA cable for video....which oddly enough has a red power wire on each end (but no ground). I ended up not using the extra red wires and just taped them off.
Because Lockpick has all of the grounds and outputs, I just ran the video cable, along with the power and ground from the camera (or where they connect) to the Lockpick itself.

I taped my Lockpick to the backside of the metal plate under the steering wheel. That way I have fairly easy access to it. Plus I ran some other RCA cables that Lockpick offers.

Thanks for the great description. I may mess with it to see if it makes any difference with my RBZ. The Mopar Commander camera sucks !

Will these work with the 430U radio?

Pat,
In my opinion, the camera in those kits is poorly manufactured. Apparently they switched vendors through the numerous "owners" of Chrysler through the financial crisis. The plug on the camera side of the harness doesn't even have the right connector, and the techs had to drill out one of the connector sockets to accommodate a pin that supplies power. Moreover, the quality of the camera image is less that optimal. I've seen a $30 amazon camera provide a better image. Perhaps it's the combination of camera and the 430 RBZ, but areas appear super saturated, and areas washed out with gradients any time a bright light is in the field of view.
Swapped it out with a new kit, same results. I'd say it may be best / cheaper to go with a non-MOPAR camera

Double D Mods used to carry Lockpick for $199....but I don't think they carry them anymore.

I went back and forth between a Commander camera and Lockpick...but settled on Lockpick because it offers so many more features. Outside of being a able to watch movies on my rbz while in motion (which I don't do, it is very distracting), I now find myself listening to the radio with the rearview camera on. You get a different sense of speed/movement with the camera mounted that low.

I finished my Commander cam install last week on my '12 JKU and the dealer turned it on Friday. I've got no image from the camera, but I do get a black screen and "check surroundings" warning in reverse.

I'm about to start diagnosing, anyone have a suggestion where to start?

For those searching for another place to mount your camera, here's what I did (hooked to a Pioneer Head, fwiw).

I ran the RCA cable down the passenger side, spliced power from the backup light (so that the camera is only powered when I'm in reverse), and mounted it underneath my pass. side tail light (sealed the mounting screws w/ RTV).

*picture quality is actually MUCH better than this, but it's hard to capture w/ a cell phone. The red line is about 2' behind the Jeep

Yeah. The pin outs of the connectors are all hosed. Pin one is actually not a pin, but rather an area in the corner of the pin. It's possible you're video cable is off by one pin. Are you sure you have a good ground and power from the tap into the reverse light cable?

Thanks for the help supercazzola. I've definitely got a good ground, and if the tap to the reverse light were bad I don't think I'd get a screen at all so I should be good there. First place I was going to check was my pins but I was very careful there.

I know I need a tool to release the pins, can someone let me know what it's called?

I think black screen comes with programming the code that a camera is present, and having radio setting that it is present. Black screen (with text) means lack of video signal returning from camera, on a radio told that / setup for a camera installed (hence reason radio overlays the text).

I agree - I'm going to start at the camera connection and work backwards. Thanks again for the help.

On the back-up camara side.

The one nice thing about Lockpick is that it is pretty straight forward, and that everything is pre-wired with multiple options.

http://www.coastaletech.com/media/Ne...structions.pdf

It has the following power leads:
*Accessory 12V
*Constant 12V
*Reverse cam (only sends power to camera when vehicle is in reverse or if you manually select the camera by pushing the UConnect button twice).
*Baby/Front/Left/Right cam (same as reverse cam)

Plus a ground lead, 3 RCA video inputs (rear cam, front/left cam, right/baby cam), and a set of AV RCA(left/right/video) inputs and outputs so you can input a signal from an external source, or output a signal to an external monitor.

Just to put a period on my problem, it turns out I had a bad connector at the camera. After much searching, I found a repair kit from Mopar, part #68032364AA. Spliced all four wires, added new connector and I'm up and running. Just in case anyone else has wiring issues, here's a great site:

Please snap a photo of what you bought. I'm having a hard time imagining what you got? The connector on the camera side? Radio side?

Here's what I got: camera side connector, new wiring with pigtails, crimps, and shrink tubing. If you need the radio-side connector, there's a repair package for that as well. Just search using the link above.

Has anyone successfully used Lockpick on a manual 2012 JKU? I am really wanting rear view camera capability. Any ideas without changing out my factory nav system?

Pat and his crew at Fields Auto were able to get a backup camera working great on my 2014 Unlimited Sahara - it's a manual 6 speed. No issues with it whatsoever, and it looks great! Very nice to have this done at the dealership!

Just one more reason to go visit Pat!
