I created my own backup hitch camera install. Here's my thread on it:

Ok...I'm sure this has already been covered but I'm trying to decide on the best possible back-up camera and DVD connection link for the 730N system in my Call of Duty. I have looked at the NAV-TV ALL-GIG /AV Cable? Is this the best available option...What camera would be best based?? I will have it installed so not too worried about ease...just quality

Whatever camera you get, I would suggest making sure it's CCD and not CMOS. The CMOS ones are cheaper but have lower picture quality. The one I got is this one:

CCD SMALL EMBEDDED WIDE ANGLE REAR VIEW BACKUP CAMERA | eBay

180 degree viewing angle, good in low light and CCD. Plus it's really small. The body is 20mm and the face is 25mm.

You can go with either NAVTV or Lockpick. I like lockpick just because I've used them. However, beware, their override functions for Nav input and Video do not work on the 12 manuals. But backup camera still works.

The camera has a module it plugs into via a micro USB type connection. That module is in the jack storage area. I unplug one cable and pull off the hitch cover.

Will the other functions work on a 2012 automatic?

Lockpick V5

I just bought a lockpick kit which included the backup camera off of ebay. Seems like there is a certifed reseller of coastaletech products. I was able to get both the V4 My Gig Unlock Kit, along with the License Plate Night Vision Bar Camera for $300 delivered. I did a bunch of research, and it seemed to be one of the best packages for the price. I Tried the local dealer here in Victoria, but no one knew anything about the camera's or installs. I will try to do the install on my own, doesn't seem to difficult, it looks all plug and play. I think the hardest part is going to be taking off the dash to get to the radio.

Any update on availability of the rumoured OEM plug and play unit? If there are any Canucks that know of suppliers/installers out my way, would appreciate a recommendation. 2011 JK 730N.

Installed today

I got the lock pick version 5 and the cam installed today. Love it! Surprise that the installer only charged 90 to do the install. Said it was easier than he expected. The cam was mounted adjacent to the trailer hitch receiver. Very clean install. Looks good there, and is protected by the receiver hardware. It is to the right of the receiver as you look at it.

I love how the cam has the measurement markings (which is optional). I love how you can use the DVD player in motion. The only thing that doesn't work now is the speed on the NAV. I knew that going into it. They have to disable that to "trick" the car into thinking it is not moving so the address input and DVD works while in motion. Also love how you can turn the back up camera on anytime you want

This was a great mod! No regrets and cheaper than I expected...which is always a good thing.

Did you have a dealership do the install?

Grevar, what camera did you install? Still happy with it? You seem pleased with the markings. I'm looking to install just above the hitch opening as well.

ditto..fyi you should have the latest software. You can disable/enable the lockpick to bring back the GPS in the setup menu. Personally doesn't bother me I just leave it enabled all the time.

I installed a pioneer 3400 head unit and this cheapo camera:
Amazon.com: Audiovox Car ACA200W License Plate Camera System: Car Electronics

works great. visibility is excellent and it's waterproof so far. I mounted it under the hitch and wired the reverse light to the input trigger, so it comes on with the 6-speed manual when reverse is selected. you can also turn it on in motion.

For those having trouble on where to place the camera..They also make license plate frames with cameras built in, but not a fan of the look

Just finished installing NavTv - excellent customer service, even wired in a relay for me to trigger the power. Went with their flush mount mini camera-its great but had to silicone it in because it just a bit short to attach the locking ring behind the rear plastic part of the Sahara plastic bumber. Now have full functionality and lots more hookups if needed.

Has anyone installed one with the back up camera on the rear view mirror? If so which did you use?

This is a great thread by the way. However, after reading all of the posts, I am not sure if my question belongs here, but it is worth a shot!

I bought a 2012 JK 2 Door Sport that I thought came with the NAV unit but didn't want to pay the $$$ after waiting for it to come in for 3 weeks. I currently have the 6 speaker sub par speaker system with XM green dot matrix screen. Can I buy an aftermarket NAV and still get to use my steering wheel controls Volume, Station, Source? How hard is this to do? Adding the camera shouldn't be a problem and I am pretty savvy when it comes to electronics, but this ain't like my TJ was; its 3 weeks old and a hell of a lot more expensive! Any pointers?

Thanks!

I've tried searching with no luck, but has anyone had problems with their nav unit being stuck on your last location after the lockpick installation?

I had the backup camera and lockpick installed Friday, today I tried to input a destination and the nav thinks I'm still at the location I input last Thursday. I've gone into the, "where am I" screen and it won't update to my location.

I thought if someone has had this problem and it's an easy fix, I will try to do it myself.

Thanks,
Lisa

Yessir. if you replace the radio, you can keep the steering wheel controls. You need a module that translates the steering wheel controls (which is one wire) into the correct signals for the correct radio. I installed this unit to interface with my pioneer head unit:

PAC SWI-PS Pioneer and Sony Universal Steering Wheel Radio Interface : Amazon.com : Automotive

Im sure it has been asked a couple of times, but does anyone know if the 2012 430N with Uconnect has the ability to utilize a back up camera. I went to Best buy and the install guy isn't sure if the pioneer camera is all that i need or if there is an additional harness. The dealer here says 430N system for wrangler doesn't have ability but seems some of you have done this. Thanks

i don't have that radio, but i think you require the mygig lockpick for a rear cam. though i'm not sure if the manual trans works or not. MYGIG LOCKPICK
