What exactly needs to be told to the service guy? "Hey use the Scan tool to activate camera on my nav?" And what are they charging.

I really want to go the Jeep Commander camera route and have my 430N flashed, but I can already sense the frustration I will encounter at my current dealer.

Why I'm glad I have a mod friendly dealer. He told me install it and bring it in and he'll flash it to activate the camera. Got my camera just haven't had chance to install it.

Rear View LCD

Worked on installing my rear view video LCD screen for our new 2013 JKU. Put a LCD that clips onto the factory rear view mirror [bought off Ebay]. I didn't have to lose the map lights then.
I'm looking at what others did here for the backup camera. I think I will go with the camera in the spare tire up top.

More imges to follow.

Commander cam. Yes, I have a Rubicon with the Sahara bumper covers now!

I did not do the install of this one myself. I wasnt able to come up with a good way to mount the camera in the bumper. I went to a dealer where a guy has been doing them. I wont give his tricks away. The wiring is very simple. Mounting the camera is the trick. The wires are run up through the hardtop wire access grommet and run down the inside of the Jeep.

This looks great and its the way I want to go , already got the Mopar kit, but I'm wondering how you mounted the camera ?? Did you need to remove the bumper ?? any pics showing the camera mounted inside ??
Which way did you run the wires forward ?? Thanks

^That is interesting. I pulled my Sahara bumper covers off a long time ago. But I wonder if I could drill a hole in the bumper cover, and mount the camera between the real bumper and the bumper cover. I could always plasti-dip the bumper cover black....

Here is what I used:

Amazon.com: NAV-TV ALLGIG_XG-HS Video in Motion bypass for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and VW Routan vehicles equipped with the MYGIG Radio/DVD player: Car Electronics

Infrared Keyhole Rear View Backup Camera CCD Cameras | eBay

I mounted the camera flush under my spare tire in the bumper. Works great and the tire doesn't hinder the view at all. No wires to cut and you can use the factory rubber plug near you jack to bring wiring into the Jeep.you will need to tap into your rear backup light but no biggie just use a scotch lock and their will still be no cutting.

This appears to be the cleanest installation, closest to what an OEM version might be. My dealer said he'd run the Starscan on my 430. Can anyone shed some light on how to securely mount the camera inside the bumper?

Factory Integrated OEM Backup Camera System for Jeep Wrangler

Hey guys I bought this plug and play backup camera that integrates into my factory nav from Backup Camera Systems, Monitors & Accessories - Jemko Systems
They use the NavTV Video In motion interface and have the complete system including backup camera in a package that worked really well for me.
They also recommended an installer who did it for a hundred dollars so Im pretty happy with the system. Heres the link to the system Factory Integrated OEM Backup Camera System for Jeep Wrangler - Factory OEM Backup Systems - BACKUP CAMERA SYSTEMS - Jemko Systems

I also found this camera that has been specifically made for the jeep wrangler, doesnt exist anywhere else and when i spoke to the tech guys they told me its a patented camera for the wrangler specifically that just came out in January. Looks interesting

This thread is starting to smell like SPAM.

FWIW, those "Jemko" cameras are junk - they aren't offering anything specific to the Wrangler, nor do they "integrate" with the factory NAV any more than any other generic camera.

I bought my bumper camera and NAV-TV Allgig from them and I dont think its junk. The Bumper camera is pretty standard but has a 170 degree angle which is more than the 120's you find on amazon.
And how exactly does it not integrate into the Nav? according to your experience? The Nav-TV allgig integrates into the media center and has 2 standard rca inputs for the backup camera and an optional 2nd input.
the interface is the same as Amazon.com: NAV-TV ALLGIG_XG-HS Video in Motion bypass for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and VW Routan vehicles equipped with the MYGIG Radio/DVD player: Car Electronics which was posted on the previous page, except for this is just the lockpic for video in motion and you need the harness too which is another 68 bucks from nav-tv. so the kit from jemko worked out just fine for me and i had the installer do it so it works pretty factory oem to me.
Have you bought from them before JandS?

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but NavTool is another option for a backup camera interface. It also permits in-motion route mapping and other things. It is made in the USA, unlike the China-made Lockpick.

And here's another flush mount camera option, from the Back-up Camera for my Navigation System thread:

I put mine on the rear bumper because i am mostly concerned my little kids playing on my driveway. I can see them even if they are very close to my jeep because my camera is located so low.

I had mine installed by the dealer I bought my Wrangler from (Rexburg, ID). This was the first one they had done, but they did an awesome job. I bought the Commander camera on eBay for about 155, and they kept it for a couple days to work on it. Tech told me he had to pull off the rear bumper to mount it where I wanted it, drill out some of the material in the bumper itself, but it came out super clean. They then used Starscan to turn on the feature in my 430 head unit. Works perfectly.

What did the dealer charge for the install? I've read from others who have done it that in order to properly hide the wires you have to remove a lot of trim things and I imagine it would take a few hours if they did it right.

They quoted me four hours of shop labor to do the job, and even though it took them about seven hours total they only charged me for the four hours. Their rate is 50/hr, so 200 bucks. The guy told me next time it'd take him less than four hours to do one, now that he knows exactly how to do everything.

4 Hours? Wow... I think he took a 2 1/2 nap.

That's a very good rate. I think the shop rate at my local dealer is something like $100/hr.

If I ever install a backup camera I'll be doing it myself. Not only for the cost savings but I don't trust someone else to be as meticulous with routing the wiring as what I would do.

I would also appreciate any tips on how to mount the camera on the spare tire carrier, and how/where to tap into the backup light power.

Anyone?

I would like to see pictures of the commander camera installed in the Wrangle bumper..I just bought the camera and would like to see what the dealers have done. Any pics of inside the rear bumper would be helpful.
