Bad day at the office

I was driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and just past the first tunnel, with a semi beside me, I noticed a fat seagull up ahead in the roadway. The gull was focused on some roadkill, was too slow to get in flight, and this is the result.

Bad day for the windshield, and my blood pressure, but worse for the bird.

Damn! That's no good, did you drive with you head out the window like Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura?

Whoa! Man, that sucks...not worth a windshield to reduce the flying rat population by only one. Now if you'd scored four or five...

Doesn't look like there's any body damage, though. To your Jeep, I mean.

Yeah, could have just a easily been a grill/radiator, so look at the positives!

I'd have been worried about damage to my seat...stain damage!! Glad you're ok. That looks like zero fun.

A bird and 55 mph of force. Yeah, I really was Ace Ventura--two more hours of driving to get to the Courthouse, then 2.5 hours back to meet the windshield guy at my house. You should have seen the looks. All good now, but a sketchy morning.

Heard about a company that makes a full polycarbonate windshiled for the JK.
see if I can find the link.
Doesn't cost much more than that tough as peanut brittle stock wind screen.

I drove from NC to OH then to CO when I moved. I just got my oil changed and I have 7 more rock chips in my windshield and just the other day I hit a bird with the top of my windshield/roofline. No damage but man I've never had any rock chips in my other cars. Got to love that perfectly straight up and down windshield.

Glad no one got hurt. Came close to hitting one those many times. Didn't think they would do that much damage.

When I bought my '12, the dealer made a point to tell me I would get a broken windshield for sure due to the up and down design

Got them to throw in the windshield coverage thing for 5 years

How it works is Geico will covered 2 chips per service claim free as sort of preventative maintenance cause they won't cover cracks or broken windshields within doing a claim. I guess I can do this 6-8x a year. Check and see if your insurance covers it because I didn't know mine did.

I have to wonder...... How did they change the design of the windshield so dramatically that JK windshields break so much easier than the TJ design ? My 97' TJ has 163,000 miles on it. It looks like it was sandblasted, but has never cracked
