Your dealer is an idiot. K&N does nothing on this engine. There is plenty of data showing JKs getting their rated mileage.

Great drive - JK

I really loved my '07 Compass, although the consumption was never as good as promised.
I knew going in to the Wrangler that the Compass fuel economy was something I would miss . . .
Meanwhile - all I can say is that the JK is so much a greater drive than the Compass that it is worth the extra consumption.
Climbing into a Wrangler is special, you don't get that feeling getting into any other SUV.
(a Wrangler is not comparable to any SUV)

Sheesh - that sucks. I average 18mpg round town and up to 22 on the highway in a 2010 2 door. I think there is something wrong there...

Why all these MPG threads lately?

It's a jeep people...

Those higher numbers are best case scenario driving a bone stock sport w/ 3.21 gears and small tires.

Manufacturers don't have to show an estimate for every model.

Ex- A heavier rubicon is not going to see the same mileage as a stock sport.

Just my .02

I'm not complaining, I love the damn thing...But I do think something is up. My exhaust smells the same as when the gas comes out the pump. Burning very rich, and not just on startup. Like a lot of fuel being wasted just idling

I am having a similar problem with my Toyota Corolla... it will NOT go through 3 foot snow drifts worth a damn...... and when I try to take it off road, it really starts to bog down......but the MPGs are FANTASTIC......

Joe, FWIW, I have an '11, "stock" JK Sport "S" with 3.21's a 6 spd, and the 3.8. In short maybe the best possible mpg rig. I can hit 23 with mostly highway and some stop & go. I drop to about 17 for pure stop & go. Mostly with my driving style I average about 20.4 ALL AROUND. Also its NOT all that underpowered IMHO. Just select the right gear for the right activity.

One word... Ethanol! That crap kills your mileage, period f$&@ing dot. It has killed several of my weedeaters, a blower and a push mower. It is killing mpg's in every vehicle on the road, but the greenies seem to love it even though it's subsidized with tax money. Really grinds my gears that people go hungry and we are turning corn into ethanol!

Make sure all your fluids are topped off, including the transfer case.

And too top it off, some car companies (BMW being one) will test the fuel in your tank for certain problems and if the % of ethanol is anywhere over 10% they won't honor the warranty since the warranty states not to use anything over 10%. They also tried to void my fuel pump warranty because I couldn't prove that I used a "top tier" premium gas and that I probably used SAM's Club premium gas. I said OK, see you in court then. I only have to use premium gas, not gas from certain gas stations. They fixed it.......

I believe high speed is another symptom of what is refered to as bad MPG. Come on folks - if you want to cruse at 70+ MPH get another vehicle. As is said, it's a Jeep! While it may go 70+ it is not designed too. As was said elsewhere, it has the aerodynamics of a washing machine.

There is a web site (pure-gas.org) that lists gas stations that do not use ethanol. See if there is one in your area and use that gas. At least it is 100% gas and it will help your MPG rate.

I have one close to me...does it really make THAT much of a difference? An improvement of 2 mpg would be worth the slight inconvenience of trying to go to one location for fuel; especially over time.

10% has 3% less energy so you should see about that much drop. I noticed more than that usually though. I never use the stuff.

07 2 door X, 4:10 gears 40k on the odo.

14.6 is my idiot dash board average on Stock Rubicon sized BFG's.
In my fuel log book I calculate an actual 13.79 MPG average.

11 MPG on 35" tires got old after awhile, and she was slooooow up mtn passes.

Much better in summer for me.
Fiberglass top off, doors off, spare tire off, back seat gone and 17.8 MPG.

Yall keeping your tires inflated?

I didn't know it, but I was running at about 23psi for a good long while, and getting maybe 13mpg. Filled them to 45ish and was a jump to 19mpg in my 2007 Rubi.

I have an onboard air system now, so I can inflate and deflate at will for trails...sooo awesome.

My buddy asked me a similar question when I told him I ordered bigger tires... he says "what is that going to do to your mileage?"... obviously if I was concerned about how far a tank of gas was going to take me, I would've purchased a hybrid

I just love it when some people say, "Well, you bought a Jeep, not a Prius." That doesn't mean that 11mpg is something to be expected from a Jeep. I see all these Jeeps out there getting the advertised mpg or better so why wouldn't someone think something is wrong when theirs is only getting 11 or 12? I guess it makes you more of a man or your pecker bigger when you enjoy wasting fuel that you don't need to. Try being more helpful instead of giving snide comments.
