Never mind... I just realized their warranty is only for 90 days form the date of purchase. I most likely won't even use it within 90 days. So its out as a option at least for me!

You can get the two year extended warranty from Harbor Freight. I bought one about a month ago and i haven't used it yet but, after we installed it and went to respool it, it was pulling my jeep towards my friends jeep while his was coming towards mine. It's a slower winch but it's a strong winch.

I have that winch and heres a few things about it. First, it doesnt like to be out in the elements. Mine quit working after a year it just seized up. But the good part is that if you have the HF warranty you just take it into the store and they give you a brand new one. I used mine to rip out a few trees and youre right they are slow but they get the job done. Its a really cheap winch and should be treated as such. I always test it before I go on a wheeling trip. I know "why hassle with that" but I got mine for an xmas gift last year and for a few bucks a year I can have a new winch any time I want and when these work they work well.

For the price at the time, $385 with extended warranty and tax, you just can't hardly beat that for a 12K winch. You can't even buy a Warn 8K for that, like he said it's a cheap winch, but hey if it saves you once, its worth it's money.

Winch's are nice looking on your jeep and I would love to have one, but to be honest I would probably never use it/one.

That's the one I'm leaning towards with the synthetic line. Where you purchase from?Truckandwinch.com?

I have a friend thats had one on his Jeep for over a year. He has used it several times and it works like a champ. Got mine for Christmas, its in a box in the back garage waiting for my OR-FAB mid width bumper to come in. It should ship tomorrow.

Was it the solenoid or the winch itself being exposed do you think? I'm hoping to mount the solenoid under the hood, or at least underneath the plate (as long as it ends up being still protected there).

I've had the Badlands 12k winch for 2 years. No problems with it, my 2 year extended warranty is about to expire so it may die soon... lol But for the money I have been satisfied with it and I just bought a wireless remote for it for $25 at HF.

How many pulls have you made on it?

Only about 3, I don't go wheeling alone and it's easier to just hook a strap.
Another reason I didn't want to spend a lot of $$ on a winch.

My solenoid is under the hood, it was the winch itself. I have since put a winch cover over it and no prblems since then. Ive had to winch myself out of some sticky stuff. worked just fine. I just test it a few days before a wheeling trip to make sure tho.

Here it is pulling me out of some nasty florida swamp:

Then right around 6:10 in this video you can see it pull out a really stuck JKU: (after a smittybilt winch broke...)

Bottom line, when it works it works really well.
