What part of Baja? I have only been as far south as Ensenada.

I told my wife that the weekend after the JKU comes in we are taking a trip.
I moved to AZ on the fly after retiring overseas (Malaysia) from the Army.
Had no real roots in AZ, but had to move somewhere stateside.
Anyway, never been to Sedona, and thought that would be a nice trip now that the weather is heating up to take the doors off and head North to the high desert from Tucson.

Very nice pics. I would def' love to ride there.

Indeed...a week actually. The weather was perfect.

Sea of Cortez, opposite of Ensenada near the village of San Felipe. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular almost every day. If you have made Ensenada then try San Felipe next time. There are hotels, house rentals or camping but NEVER go during holiday weekends or mid summer. It's far better when things are dead slow.

You would run to Yuma and take the crossing at Algodones then head 2-3 hours south. I've only been on the western side of the sea so far. The roads are pretty good however they are doing work at several locations. I have said for many years that the worst roads in America are better than the best roads in Mexico but these are pretty good. Never drive there at night...it's dangerously dark.

Actually the highway down from Mexicali is a really good road. We cruised at nearly 100 on motorcycles last year. Nevertheless, not driving at night is extremely good advise. Also be prepared for several Federale stops. It is just an additional safety measure that can add time to a trip but it is a good thing.

They are tearing up and rebuilding the road again between Laguna Salida and La Ventana. It will likely last for another 5-6 months with the usual bulldozed diversion roads.

Also, if you are willing to go through the SENTRI process and get a pass it will save you major time getting through the border. It takes less than 10 minutes versus 2-3 hours without, each time. The pass is good for 5 years.

I have my SENTI and it is nice to just drop over to Mexicali for dinner or tacos and come back. There is a faster way across the border if you have the small wallet sized passport card. There is a special line at the east port (new port) of Mexicali. It is next to the SENTRI lane so those that are riding with you that do not have SENTRI can ride with you through that line as long as they have the smaller documents or SENTRI. There still is a little bit of a wait in the left lane but it is much faster than the 2 hours of the others. Otherwise, I just go through the downtown port SENTRI and have those without it get out and go through the walking line. Even then it may take a while.
