That's exactly why I leave mine on all the time. Got rear ended once in my Yukon and there was no damage to the dumb bitch behind me which pissed me off. If I had my hitch on she would have learned a lesson. Haven't removed it since (6 years now).

I take mine off when I think about it after using it. A friend of mine had an Explorer that was rear-ended on a hitch,and it folded the frame under at the weakest spot near the rear suspension.

I leave mine in all the time. I've been "tapped" at red lights twice now....doesn't do anything to me, but can't say the same for the hood/grill/bumper area of the cars that hit me.
