Base Price Increase

The base price for a Sport is now $400 more than MY 2014. This is an additional $100 increase from when the 2015's officially released in September, and it's not even 2015 yet.

I've just recently started researching and following new Wranglers (and new vehicles in general), and was wondering if that increase is typical from one year to the next. Certainly I understand inflation and cost of living and possible upgrades from year to year, but was just curious if the price increase was typical, and why it would go up another $100 in December.

I also noticed that the 3.73 axle ratio upgrade increased from $495 to $545 this year. From many of the discussions on this forum, it seems that a lot of the options available haven't changed in price at all in the past few years. Perhaps it's because so many people are now requesting higher ratios?

Very common for vehicles where demand is as strong as supply. The Nissan GTR increased $20k in less than 4 years.

The next price decrease I would expect to arrive with the introduction of the next-gen wrangler. This is what they did in the transition to the JK. Also based on many of the rumors surrounding it; cost of production will likely be less as well.

Heck, I've shopped for another TJ this past year and I'd have to pay 10k-15k for a nice one again. I bought my last TJ in Dec 2007 for $14,200 with 15k miles at the time - tell me where i can find a 2005 TJ for $14,200 with low miles in like new condition! I'm hoping I can find one with under 75k for the same price now. I should have kept the TJ I had. They may not be in investments but they are hard to replace unless you shell out a lot again, I'd say that's a good investment.

According to Edmunds.com, base price for a 2015 Sport is now $22,995.
The 2014 Sport ended at $22,395 (according to Jeep.com).

The 2015's officially released in September with a $300 base increase.
$100 increase in December.
$100 increase in February.
$100 increase in April.
???

The last two increases are not even reflected on the Jeep.com Build & Price.

Options prices keep bumping up throughout the year, too.

I've only been following this for a year, so I don't know how typical this is, but it seems strange to keep increasing the price all year long. It feels slippery, shady. Why not just one lump increase at the start of the year? Too complex to truly spell out on the Webs, I guess.

Demand drives the price up. I get that. But when the manufacturer's information (website) doesn't update accordingly...that's just...I don't know, inconsiderate? There are so many mistakes and contradictions on Jeep.com. Certainly they must be aware of them? Who needs to be clear and forthright when selling so many units, is that it?

It's no wonder people get frustrated when they try to find accurate pricing information before going into the dealership, then get in there and suddenly the price is hundreds more than they had researched.

How much is a base JL going to cost in 2017?

^Just curious, why would you go to Edmunds to get the base price and not Jeep.com? Jeep lists the base price at $22,795.

The last increase went in April 6th. The build site is not updated, but the ordering system is in fact updated. Also, the invoice price increased more than the MSRP... meaning the cost basis disproportionately increased (yes, invoice is not cost, but holdback has not changed, thus a net cost increase). That means there's less room to negotiate "below invoice." Most options did not increase but certain options did (I know Alpine went up $50 for sure). For the most part, expect to pay a few hundred more than you would have last month.

I posted this elsewhere too - the Premium Soft Top is mispriced on the site and has been for a while. It shows $400 but the price is $500.

When we purchased our 2015 JKU Sahara, the dealer had 4 of the EXACT same cars on the lot. However, the build date was different, and the base price was different.

All 2015's, all the same options.

One at $XX,510

Two at $XX,610

One at $XX,810.

The dealership mentioned that Jeep increased the base price as the year went on and thus those built after the increase have a higher base MSRP. The build sheets were the exact same, but the base price was different.

And remember, guys:

Chrysler has a Price Protection Program. When you order your jeep, put down a deposit, sign two POCs (one for you to take, one for them to keep) and date them and you're covered under this program. Chrysler can raise the price five times while you're waiting, but as long as you've got your POC/deposit the dealer submits an invoice to Chrysler and CHRYSLER pays the price difference, NOT YOU!!! (Probably not any money changing hands, but they process it internally, that's my point. :) )

Wow, so Jeep's website says one thing and the ordering system says another? It seems they would be bound to their advertised price and if they lag in getting their website updated, it would be on them to honor the price quoted.

There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the POC (and I'm sure scattered throughout their website) saying pricing and options subject to change, blah, blah, blah. That's why it's in your best interest to get your POC and a print out from the dealer of your package details dated the day you placed your order. You want as much documentation to support what YOU believe to be true at the time of order:

I ordered my FE in September 2013, as soon as hydro was released. The package listed that it came with the signature mineral grey grill and matching wheels. Fast forward to October 29, when my jeep was delivered and it had NON-matching silver sparkle wheels. I asked the dealer what was up and they had no clue.

Long story short, because I had a print out showing all my package details, printed the day I placed my order, Chrysler stepped up and swapped out my wheels for the MATCHING wheels they should have been. It took me about a month and many, MANY phone calls to get it done, but I won! There were several other hydro FE owners who received theirs with the silver sparkle wheels and Chrysler swapped theirs, too. There was only one out of a group of ..five, I think it was, that did NOT get his wheels replaced, and I think it was because he didn't want to deal with the hassle.

It took them until December to change jeep.com and remove the mineral grey wheels as part of the FE package. And then 2015s are released and they are BACK to mineral grey as standard!

Don't count on anything you see listed on jeep.com as gospel. Ask your dealer for a print out from dealerconnect when you place your order and verify, verify, VERIFY everything listed! SAVE all your paperwork. You never know when you might just need it!

Ok boys, wait for it... In early 2012 I ordered and took delivery a mnoth later a 2012 fairly loaded (minus 2 top option) final price on sticker jst over 34K. Same exact vehicle on "build and price" Jeep.com site 2015 Just a hair over 40K!! Pretty big change in just over 3 years I think!

Kelley BB for an excellent condition JKU w/36K (for trade in $$) in my zip code is tops 27K. Actually compared to other rides that's not too bad. When I traded my '07 Sahara with 2 top option, no leather or heated seats toward my '12 they gave me 29K (listed for 34K 6 yrs before!) and it had 64k on the odometer toward the '12 I have now. They had that on there lot for 4 months, I guess they gave me too much...I didn't think so! :)!!!

My son in law just traded a similar vehicle but a loaded '12 Rubi, professionally lifted, re-shocked, 34's, new fender flares and very nice steel bumpers fore and aft for a '15 diesel GC Limited and the gave him 30K towards a 54K CG! After all that he doesn't care for the diesel, 'cept the torque...noisy and fuel mileage not as promised and searching for fuel!!

Just some thoughts...from up here in the NE! They gotcha no matter what if it's gotta be a JEEP, and it's gotta!!

Have fun and don't bust anything!

Jeep.com just this week updated to reflect the MSRP increases that went into effect in April. Over a two-month lag. That's weak sauce. Anyone who priced a Wrangler on Jeep.com and took it in to the dealer got the frustrating: "Oh, sorry, MSRP's went up in April...your build is now $xxx more than you planned."
