I just don't want to look like an idoit since this is my first Jeep, if this is a normal sound, and I don't want to go in there to Joe random mechanic who tells me " Ah everything is fine" but it's really not!!! ........ I have had it only 2.5 weeks.....please help!!!
I need WF's finest to educate me so I can go in there with guns a blazing if something is already wrong!! LOL

@inferno & N39....it's doesn't "feel" like either one of those.........it's almost knocking below where my shoulder would be when I am driving. I even grabbed the excess seatbelt to see if it was that and it's not.

its probably the cheap plastic door panels. Mine clunk around a little when I hit bumps.

Above the door are two round dials. They are used for tightening and loosening the door frame. When they get loose, they like to clunk and vibrate. Maybe that's what you're hearing?

Might be the seatbelt where it connects to the adjustable sliding doohickey. Or the door latch problem.

Wasn't there a quick fix for that door latch problem? I seem to remember grease in the latch or something, any thoughts?

Mine had the door latch problem when it was new. It either disappeared or I just don't notice it anymore. Some guys have been putting a layer of tape on the part that the door latches to on the door jam. That solved the problem for the door latch. It is non destructive and can be reversed so just try it and see if the noise disappears. If it does, then problem solved, if it doesn't then try something else and take the tape off. No harm no foul.

We're Jeepers here... we DON"T HUG!

We roll around in the mud, crawl over rocks & cliffs, some of us even drive underwater (except chadwick) but we don't hug!

Unless you're a super-hot lady... then we'll make an exception!

This group hug thing requires petty good confidence in your sexuality and tolerance of the difference of others. I'm in the "we need more group hugs" crowd. FWIW. Even among the terribly machismo crowd of jeepers. If that means turning down the testosterone a little, so be it. So....group hug away!

i know on my unlimited, i have put tape on all the door stiker hoops, and when the sun rider is open, the top frame rub/bumps the bumpstop arm on the rear door surround. a layer of thin foam tape there took care of that!

Funny... I'm having the same sound in my 2010 unlimited. Sounds like something in the door behind me or the pillar that houses the seatbelt. I'm very interested in what you find.

Find out real quick by just taking black electrical tape and wrapping a few turns around the metal loop on the outer side and close the door, go for a ride and see if the noise goes away. If it does, that is what is causing the noise. Been like that since 2007...I guess it is not high on the priority list to solve.

I know I should be answering this question myself, but... which door front or back. Is the problem typically one or the other?

Found this thread describing what sounds like the same problem. I'm thinking it's the front door.

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/doo...lem-17593.html

I'll try the tape as was suggested to be sure then consider taking it to the dealer.

Yes, typically it is the front door that does this. Mine did it on the driver's side.

sure enough... it was the driver's door latch. i wrapped a little electrical tape on the outer section of the striker loop. Then I hit the mean streets of manhattan - no more rattle.

i'll put this on my list of things for the dealer service dept to look at.

i'm taking it to the dealer tuesday for some other stuff and will have the latch checked.

curious... how does the electrical tape or the grease that the dealer TSB mentions help this?

I don't know about the grease but the electrical tape provides a cushion around which the door latch will close. Prior to the electrical tape, the latch is metal on metal contact. Anything that the jeep does that causes the door to shift up and down such as repetitive bumps will cause the latch to make noise. I don't know for instance if it is body flex or the door hinge connection which flexes but somehow while going over repetitive bumps that latch is moving up and down and making noise against the latch ring. Putting the electrical tape there simply softens the blow and quiets the noise.
