Best 35'' tire carrier for the price?

I need to buy a 35'' tire carrier in the next week or so. I was curioius if anyone knew where the best place to buy one is, and for the best price. Also, if you have pictures of yours I would love to see them to compare.

Thanks!!!

Check out the ACE rear bumper/tire carrier combo.ACE JK Rear Bumper with Tire Carrier

Obviously budget is a concern, so not sure what your plan is.

A full bumper and carrier, or just the carrier?

If just the carrier, you could look into the Smittybilt oversized carrier. Not sure how resilient it is, but it is cheap (under $200). kbwwolf uses it, so I'm sure he could shed some light on it. I do know that he is planning to upgrade to the OR-Fab carrier before too long though.

Speaking of which, the OR-Fab carrier is probably the most used carrier-only option out there. There are a few different versions; flush mount (no can mounts), jerry can mounts, and rotopax mounts.

A new carrier that is coming out very soon is the Teraflex unit. While I really like the design and the fact that the tire opens with the door, I still feel it is a bit overpriced (calling for $500-$600) for what it is which is essentially a full hinge replacement for the tailgate.. A video was recently posted on their YT channel.

If looking for a full bumper/carrier, hard to beat the new ACE unit that has just started shipping. And at $695, it is a hell of a bargain. I just wish the bumper wasn't so squared off looking, but that's just me. Link to thread.

I have the stock bumper still. Its a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited 4-door. Whenever I go over a bump something rattles back there. I don't know if its the tire, the bumper, or what? I just need to fix the rattle sound because its annoying and it will cause damage soon if I dont fix this and get a tire carrier. Correct?

Depends on what is making the rattle, check the spot welds on the inside of your tailgate, see if they are pulling through.

^^this! This is what a pulled spot weld will look like, or worse.

Is the tire currently snugged up against the bumpstops on the tailgate? Or is there a gap?

I just installed the OR-Fab tire carrier with 35 and 17" wheels. Looks great and easy to use. Still attaches to the body and not the frame but it's the best I could do without replacing the rear bumper and purchasing the bumper/tire carrier combo. No rattle and no movement on the rear tire that I notice yet.

I have the OR-Fab Jerry can/Tire carrier. It holds up to a 37” tire and is completely independent from a rear bumper, thus making it cheaper than a bumper/carrier combo. It is not cheaply made, however. Drilling into the body is required. I ordered mine from Chris at Jeep Add Ons/Truck Add Ons. Good price and great customer service. I believe he is a vendor here.

I honestly think it is the jack that is doing the rattling. I'll take it out later to be for sure, but I remember taking it out a few months ago and not placing it back in all the way. I really hope it's just the jack.

Either way, if you're wheeling with a 35" spare on your stock tire carrier, it's probably only a matter of time before something bad happens.

Funny you mention that, I have a rattle as well. Will have to check out if it goes away removing the jack. Mine only happens when I go over some larger bumps and get some resonating at the rear springs. It definitely sounds like the jack, and not the tire carrier or anything else.

I can almost correlate it to starting when I tried to help a friend who had a flat on the freeway and tried to remove my jack. I wasn't able to remove it, it was jammed tight in there. I'm sure I disturbed it when I tried to remove it, as I tried with good effort.

Let us know if that did the job for you removing the jack.

Best bumper/tire carrier for the price is the Rancho. Its 1/4", takes a beating and keeps on ticking and holds the tire great!

http://www.quadratec.com/products/12148_200.htm

Here's mine.

In action

I recently took the carrier off though an located the spare to the interior because I never used my back seat anyway and wanted to get the weight off the rear end.

If your looking for a cheap solution and your 35/wheel combos aren't heavy monsters then there was a thread where someone added an extra stop to the bottom of his tailgate to help support their 35" and used heater hose to extent the stop. I would imagine if you didn't want the heater hose option you could buy 2 sets of Daystar Tailgate Bump Stops Daystar KJ09144BK - Daystar Tailgate Bump Stops for 07-12 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec And add one to the tailgate

Here is the thread detailing this mod
