best bike rack? opinions, show off

Just got a new bike, and i dont feel comfortable breaking it down everytime i get that itch to ride (2dr). its a santa cruz, its a very expensive bike that i got for cheap and i would like to know of a good spare tire rack thatll not only hold it in place but keep it safe on long trips. looking for a two to three bike holder rack and ive got my eye set on a thule spare me 2 but wanted to know if any one has used it or another one that has kept their bike safe. i dont have a hitch, yet, so thats out of the question for now. but any help is appreciated, thanks all

I was going to post in this thread a few days ago but bowed out when you specified it had to be a non-hitch rack. Sorry I can't help ya.

Removing the wheels and putting it inside would keep the bike safer than hanging off the back where it would be trashed if you get rear ended. Other option would be a roof rack. I have a Thule crossbars that mounts on the rain gutters and use Rocky Mounts trays.

Otherwise i think the spare mount is the only option. Haven't used it.

Got the Thule 2 bike carrier specifically designed to mount on the spare . Very well engineered. Works great. Bonus is that it locks the spare.

I found it on eBay at a very competitive price from an out of state Mopar dealer.

I use the Thule spare me and then add a good cable to lock my bikes to the spare. The Thule is very light and durable. It's also convenient because u don't have to remove the front tire and bikes are on and off in seconds.
