I know there are a lot of threads out there about CBs and placement, but I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on brands and the "tested and true" CBs. Thanks

With the 2008, you have some more options regarding space and mounting. I just installed a Cobra 29LX. Fantastic sound quality, got it dialed in so >1.5 SWR across all channels (at least according to its built in SWR meter). It has some great noise cancellation features that minimize interference from vehicle electrical systems (depending on how much crap you have running).

Biggest downside? It frik'n huge. Too big for a 2012, but it is what it is, and I will deal.

We just installed a cobra 75x in Mike's jeep. The long Easter weekend was its break in. It worked like a champ! Think the antenna needs a but more tuning, but over all it was great.

Nicest part was how small the whole installation is. Box behind the glove compartment, microphone hangs from the ram mount. External speaker tie wrapped to the mount as well. Didn't have any issues with it bothering me in the passenger seat.

Is this the version that you are referring to? ( Cobra 75WXST 40-Channel CB Radio:Amazon:Car Electronics)

And yes, that's the one. That's the one I plan on getting. Don't CB much so I like that it's out of the way. Probably pair it with a Firestik 4 footer. That's all you really need for trail talk. Your phone is probably more useful in emergencies since it's getting hard to find areas without coverage, even out west, and CB range is limited.

I did the cheap Uniden 510xl, installed it directly under the stearing column. Did a perfect cut out so the face of the cb is all that sticks out. Works great!! Antenna mounted to spare stock wheel holder. Nothing fancy cause its just a CB and nobody hits there shins/knees on it.

been thru many CBs over the years and so far the best bang for the buck i have come across is the mini mobil CB from radio shack. 45.00. 4 foot firestick monted on my 3rd brake light mount and 20 feet of cable. I get great reception ,long range and if it gets stolen I am only out a 45.00...for the record the CB itself doesnt matter so much as have a proper length antenna and cable...tuning your antenna is the key...

There is no 'best' CB.. the best for me is a handlheld cobra, no need to mount anything.. I can take it in any vehicle.. I have a couple of 12volt units lying around as well, just don't see any reason to mount them permanently. Might mount one in my travel trailer though, get a bit more range when it's playing 'home base'.

That being said I've had many brands and never really found any to be particularly better than others. Some have slightly better noise cancelling, different features, SSB, etc. If you're into modding there are many specific models that are easier to increase output power, for current info on that a search engine is your friend.

I think it'll mostly come down to personal preference, can't go wrong with Cobra, Midland, Uniden, Lafayette (okay that last one probably doesn't exist anymore.. but I've got a laugh-at-it in my garage and it works very well ;-)

Thanks. I was looking at the cool tech also. I hear they are pretty good.
