Best lowering kit

I want to lower my 2013 jku for several reasons. One is to make the jeep easier to access, and also a bit firmer for travel trailer towing. I do not need the stock ground clearance. I do enjoy my jk for its power, frame and spartan good looks. Does anyone have any experience with lowering kits? any preference between the Lowjack kit or the Eibach one. I'm leaning towards the Eibach, thinking it might be the firmest. All threads on this topic are all flamed and trolled and offer no helpful info.

U are probably not going to get the support on here for lowering a jeep. Most lift them. But from my lowered vehicle days, I can say eibach makes a good spring.

It is something that I have never looked into on a Wrangler but generally a coil sprung vehicle is super easy to lower. Good luck with your search.

I can't speak for Jeeps but Eibach makes some of the best springs on the market for imports. I've had two sets on Hondas in the past. They both performed well and lasted.

They are the same way for full size trucks also. I wouldn't have a problem with ordering there system for a JK of I wanted to lower one.

I would do the either Eibach or H&R that is if they make a kit for Jeeps

I used Eibachs to lower a Jeep once... . I bought the '98 5.9L GC and the Eibach lowering springs lowered it .5 inches and did firm up the ride substantially. Don't ever tell anyone else!

I don't know much about the kit, what I would be concerned with is hitting the bump stops while driving. Make sure you take a good look at the clearances underneath so that you don't put yourself too low making the ride unbearably harsh because suspension components are bottoming out. Good luck.

Another vote for Eibach. I put their lowering kits on my Focus and Mustang. Depending on how low you drop it, you may need new shocks. If not, the ride could be very harsh.

A higher cost solution would be to convert to an air spring suspension system. They can lower to the bumpstops for access and are the optiimal solution for towing as the air springs will automatically compensate for the trailer tongue weight. Most of the systems will also lower slightly at highway speeds for better high speed stability.

They are pricey. Typical costs seem to run $5-7k installed.

It will make for a stiffer ride & replacement stock springs are a dime a dozen. Easily reversible for resale - except for the other problems lowering anything will cause - wheel rub, shock wear, pinon angle, alignment, tire wear etc.

I grew up in NM - land of the low rider. Lots of Monte Carlos & Impalas at my old HS.

Don't do that to the poor jeep, sell it to someone who appreciates what it is, and go buy a pickup. Jeeps look ridiculous lowered. Sorry, but no one else is stating what they should be saying. It's like raising a Ferrari, what the hell for?

Just to clarify, I'm only talking about a 1.5" - 2" drop, I'm still hoping that somebody with an actual H&R or Eibach drop can give a hands on opinion. I plan on getting a full kit: springs and shocks. I'm hoping it is just a matter of swapping the springs and shocks and no other issues what so ever. Yes I will keep original shocks and springs for the next owner - so they don't suffer any ridicule. Just my opinion but if Jeep releases a 2.8 diesel JKU in america it will be sold out for years. Already my Jeep is just about the only ladder frame, over 250lbs of torque, stick shift 4 door out there. Then add that diesel to the mix for more efficiency, range and a small torque bump.

one more question if the Eibach kit says a 2" drop - I assume that would drop a Sport model from 8.8" ground clearance to 6.8" and would drop a Sahara from 10.2" to 8.2, since the only suspension difference between the two is the wheels. correct?

If you install heavy front, rear bumpers, a few hundred pounds of skid plates and sturdy rock rails you should be able to lower it 1 to 1.5 inches without a suspension change. With all that armor underneath it won't matter if it's lowered.


Here in NC with the abundance of road-kill, deer carcasses popping up in your headlights a half second before you run over them it could be useful to have a completely solid belly pan with a lowered vehicle. I know a co-worker that ran over a deer carcass at night and spent many wonderful hours extracting giblets that were forcibly injected into the undercarriage of his vehicle. A bone even managed to penetrate the fuel tank.

If you (op) seriously want to lower your wrangler with a 2 door tow rating of 2,000 lbs and a 4 door tow rating of 3,500 lbs why? Lowering such a low rated tow vehicle won't really do much for you. You would probably find better tow performance by simply adding a brake controller, better highway tires, or a weight distributing hitch. It would be safer then dropping it and increase vs. decrease your resale value. I would Never purchase a lowered 4x4 nor consider it. Just my .02
