Best, most effective bug shields-after market suppliers take notice< please !!

All of the shields I have looked at online have the same common problem-THEY'RE ARE TOO SHORT TO PROTECT THE WINDSHIELD !

I cringe whenever I approach a dump truck from behind , race past them and cringe again when behind someone and the road surface suddenly changes to some loose gravel from repairs, rock salt or whatever .

I've so far managed to keep the glass and paint chip free by staying far behind the vehicle ahead or blowing past them, but I'm destined to get it soon with such a vertical windshield.

When Bugshields first came out 40 years ago, they stood up 4-6 inches and really kept the stones from hitting the glass. Granted, they were aesthetically ugly, BUT THEY WORKED!
The stuff out today is a waste of money ,IMO. Sure, they're all aerodynamic, pretty and easy to install, BUT THEY DON'T DO THE JOB THEY'RE INTENDED TO DO !
WE sit high enough to look over them and aerodynamics on a box don't matter much.
Guess I need to go to a truck dealer to see what they've got and cut it down ?
Bug splats , as we know, wash off. Can't say the same for propelled stones.

With the top off, has anyone in the rear been hit by a rock or debris?

The new low profile deflectors DO WORK. They protect the front of the hood and stop rocks from bouncing off the hood and hitting the windshield under the wipers where they are very susceptible to cracking. No matter how big a deflector you get it will not stop anything more then very small stones aimed higher on the windshield.

Haha, happened to me a few times. But I ride motorcycles, so I have had plenty of rocks hit my shins when wearing shorts while riding in the summer.

Sorry, but I disagree and I lived the experience.. They( the current ones) perform a very limited function. More esthetic, IMO.

Most guys on this forum are too young to remember the straight up deflectors of the 70s.

I HAD one on a 1968 Jeep( I BOUGHT NEW FOR MY BUSINESS) and NEVER,EVER experienced a cracked windshield,a windshield star or chipped hood in ten years and 80K miles of highway driving. The face of the grill had many small paint chips, but no where else.

I guess I lucked out this time... Yesterday, I discovered a largish paint chip about 3/8 inch below the bottom edge of the windshield where your chip is!
