I have the ACE sliders (without Rubi rails) and there's plenty of room to use them as a step. I have no lift and don't need them to climb into the seat, but I walk back and forth a lot on them to arrange cargo on my roof rack.
I have some Barricades coming from ET next week for my new JKUR. I wanted to leave the stock rubi rails in place, and I have no plans of ever rock crawling this rig. I just want some side protection and a bit of a step to make it easier to tie down my paddle board on my soon to be purchased Gobi stealth rack. The bit of a step will also make it easier for my kid to climb in the back.
Anyone know if barricades are strong enough to lift the jeep up using a hi-lift and the hi-lift tube adapter? Not something I'd ever see myself doing with any regularity, but it'd be nice to know if that technique would be gtg.
If you want bolt on performance check out the RockHard patriot series. They are bolt on and you don't lose ground clearance on your rocker side as you will with the ACE. Rockhard will also tilt the rail part up or down, if ordered that way. Been wheeling their boatside for yrs. Great sliders and no complaints.
Might want to look at O.R. Fab. Their rails act as steps as well, and they are very well built. There are a lot of bolts that go into mounting the rails,, but in their demo, they use a forklift to lift the whole left side of a built Wrangler off the ground using only the rails. White Knuckle are also very well made, and you can order them so the Rubi Rails can still be used.
+1 on the Ace sliders. They work great as a step for my wife who had an artificial knee and wouldn't be able to get in with the 3" lift and 34" tires. And they helped my Jeep bounce off trees, stumps and boulders all day long on Saturday's ride, my roughest ever. Strong stuff.
LOD rock rails, tied to the frame, I beat these hard on rocks and been great, also gives 4” wide step.
Works great for both step and rock rails.
2nd pic shows the steps.
I have the barricade enhanced rubi rails, work well for me so far and were relatively cheap. Have not been back to Moab with them but if it stays dry going to Bang's Canyon and maybe some Billing's this weekend....
