Best set of options for Aftermarket 4200NEX Pioneer

Hi guys,

I'm planning to get a 2016 Sahara Unlimited and I found out some of the options confusing despite reading through multiple discussions on this forum and over the internet.

I intend to install an aftermarket 4200NEX Pioneer HU on this Jeep, and I want to be able to control calls/music etc. using my steering wheel buttons. In addition, I'm planning on installing a rear view camera, and some way (still unclear) to get the EVIC information on the Pioneer HU as well.

After some reading, I have deducted that I do not need the 'CONNECTIVITY GROUP' package for this.

My questions:
- Does the above set-up sound good?
- What's the best way to get EVIC readings on my Pioneer HU? (I've heard of
OBDII scanners and something called iDatalink Maestro, I'm not sure what are the benefits of one over the other here)
- Will I miss any functionality at all because I didn't get the 'CONNECTIVITY GROUP' package?

PS: Also, I live in Portland, Oregon, and I decided to go Premium Sunrider SoftTop and no HardTop. Is that a bad idea?

Thanks everyone. Cheers!

I have the 4100NEX that I bought from Crutchfield and I love it. Here is why I mention Crutchfield whom I highly recommend..

I hit a bad storm when I had my emergency cover on. When I went to take it off I decided to be barbaric and push the puddling water from underneath and, long story short, got a lot of water everywhere. Tried everything but I found out the hard way that our dash, even though it looks sealed, is not waterproof.
The head unit started malfunctioning and I had to leave the next day to Florida so I left it, hoping it would dry.

Anyway, whatever the problem was, they fixed it under the warranty and returned it within 3 weeks. Best experience ever.

As far as the sound and functionality, you can ask me anything but overall I like it a lot. I liked my Kenwood a little better because it had a knob for volume, but the module I bough (and I forgot the brand, something Pro I believe) gives me a few functional buttons on the streering wheel for volume and track selection.

The Android Auto works great. I use it all the time, very fluid with the music and navigation.

Bluetooth sounds good, people tell me, even on my soft top.

I hope you get the answers you're looking for for the Mestro.

Thanks for the response. So, I can get all steering wheel controls and EVIC (TPMS, other vehicle infor) without the 'Connectivity group' options if I install the maestro and the Pioneer?

Just want to be sure so that I don't regret not getting this option afterwards.

The maestro RR lets you set up all the steering wheel controls. It also has an adapter to plug into the OBD2 connection on your jeep. It will display all sorts of readings. Fuel amount, Rpms, door open and closed, air pressure for the TPMS. But I am not sure if you opt out of the Connectivity group that you will get all the EVIC options on an after market unit

I have a 2012 that I ordered with the 730 stereo package. I had a backup camera installed at my stereo shop, they used a Lock pick module for the camera and it made watching DVD's possible.

It lasted about 2 years and got glitch (the lockpick) I had them put a new module in to do the same thing, I think it's navtec?

A couple months ago I upgraded the stereo to the Pioneer 4100, they put the module back in and my backup camera and DVD capability work great. They hooked everything up to my steering wheel controls just like the factory stereo was.

The only thing I'm having issue with is my digital compass on the dash just shows two dash lines, then the outside temp. I read the manual to reset it and it says to drive in two complete 360 degree circles. I looked crazy driving in circles in the parking lot, and it didn't reset. I've driven a few circles since and no luck. I'll have to have them look into that, otherwise everything works great.

My 2016 Rubicon came with the basic RES radio and no connectivity group. Using the Maestro iData with the CH1 harness and the built in OBD2 connector on the CH1 harness, I get battery voltage, individual toms tires pressures, rpm, throttle position, engine load etc.

Hello from another Portlander. I have the 4200nex and love it. Amazon Prime music is awesome. No commercials and tons of free music you can search for or just save to your playlists. I bought the microbypass so movies can play while in motion. Finally have a use for the DVDs that come with the blueray discs. Lol

Best feature is Google maps though. I love being able to get in the jeep and just press the microphone button and say "go to___" and not have to type in an address.
