Best Side Steps or Rocker Guards for JK?

Looking for recommendations and input on some good rock guards and what works well. Been looking at ones from Smitty and Rugged Ridge this week. Opinions? Pics of what you've got would be much appreciated.

I got the RRC rock sliders and RRC rear bumper. Both heavy duty and nice finish on them. Not a bad product for the price in my opinion. I slammed my jeep on it's side a few weeks ago and the slider held up nice and really didn't even have a dent considering the mark that was on it. The rear bumper is heavy duty beyond my expectations of what I figured it would be. I sell RR stuff at my store like some know and I'm not there biggest fan but I'm impressed with there RRC line of products that I have and installed.

Some other things, not so much.

I would buy the sliders and rear RRC bumper again if I had to.

Any idea why RRC rocker guards are more than the Smitty SRC ones that are larger? I can't figure that out?

I've read that the Smitty's just plain don't fit right! Here is one of many posts I ran across:

Thanks for the read up JP. This is what I like so much about WF, you can get threads from real installs and real experience with parts. I was considering the smittybuilt guards but I wasn't sold on the design as much as the rugged ridge and OR-Fab ones. I think the OR Fab rocker guards are gonna be the ones. IMO they look the very best and if I'm putting on the OR Fab door armor at the same time, why not match it all up eh?

OR-FAB are great products, but IMO, you can save alot of money by having some made at a fab shop. Prolly $120-$150 for a set of 3/16th Steel rockers.

Either way, you will be set

Like the looks of this set up. Lucked out and found a picture of both their side armor and rocker guards together on a silver jeep.

Only thing I worry about is whether water and dirt can get in behind and cause rust. Especially where the ORF is punched out. Seems like it would be hard to seal to keep the water out and moisture on the foggy mornings.

I would imagine that any water that entered through the logo cut outs would fall through the opening at the bottom and onto the road. I plan on painting any space around the drill holes with touch up paint before installing the bolts. You would only have to worry about water getting to exposed metal after the drill bits widen the holes. I'm thinking the touch up paint would be good enough protection.

I got Olympic rock sliders and they do their job well, not as cheap as smitty but not overly priced like the others.

Just put the Ace sliders on mine. They work well as sliders & steps. I did end up welding a third brace on them which is not shown in this pic, Very happy with the price & quality.

I am very partial to my LOD signature sliders. Frame mounted, no drilling into the tub and rock solid. Not sure if you can see it but there is a plate on top, so they act as a step as well.

It also goes to a body mount. Now this is for the. 4 door. To be honest I haven't seen the 2 door sliders, not sure if the have or would need a third mount. Or if there is even a place for them to mount! I'll try and remember to post some pictures when I put mine up next week.

Oh, spaced that you had a 4 door. I knew they came with three mounting points. I felt like the two doors also needed three, but I'm a bit #@#@.
Can't wait to see pics!!
Thanks

I have a JKU with factory steps they are metal and seem good to me. My question is do you need to upgrade ? Or are you guys into real hard rock climbing or just like the look? I off road in sand and mud mostly and this thread made me curious.

Thanks

Steps will crack or rip off as soon as you come down hard on them. Rocker guards or sliders are made of metal and can take the impact so your Jeep undercarriage/doors do not. If you never drive over rocks then I wouldn't worry about getting any but if you do one time and you come down on the rock your front wheel just went over then those steps will probably snap.

I just put the Smitty's on my 08 Rubi 4 dr last night. I will post a pic. when I can. Install was not too bad for one person. A jack, jack stand, and a BFH got them into place. All and all not to bad. The back order was almost a month though.

I think those are about $469. Still a little more than I want to spend on em. I can't find the OR Fab rocker guards anywhere for sale except their site and it doesn't mention a price there.

I figure whether I really need them or not, I bash the slider/step once on anything(stump, rock, car door opened into me, prius), and it has paid for itself many times over by taking the abuse and not my jeep tub.
