Exactly- Big difference for me between 65-70 and 75-80. Like 17mpg vs 15mpg. If i'm lucky enough to be traveling on a nice 2 lane road at 55 I'll see 19.5mpg. And that's with 4.10's
The wrangler has the same aerodynamics as a dirty cinder block speed is your enemy so just slow down and keep those big ol #12s out of the fuel pump. Most of the popular mods like lifts and big aggressive tires actually hurt mileage you will need gas sooner but will look good at the pump.
While in Reno Nevada I filled up for the first time ever on non ethanol fuel. Living in Ca we dont have any stations that are ethanol free. On average mixed driving I will get about 240 miles before the gas light comes on. On that particular tank I was at 210 miles at a half a tank and when the light came on it read 300. Never seen 300 in the 17 months ive owned the thing.
Got a dog. With her riding around with me, I drive pretty much the speed limit, accelerate slowly and try to plan to avoid stopping at traffic lights, etc. She keeps her balance and I eke out about 21mpg.
Wow, a dozen responses and no 'it's a Jeep, if you want mpg get a Prius'. Cmon guys, you are disappointing me. Someone better step up to the plate and start behaving like a proper jeep snob
Biggest difference was swapping the BFG Mud tires off...I bought a set of 17" wheels and tires from a '14 sport and dropped them on my JKURX for the day to day street driving...will throw the Mudders back on when the winter weather starts. so far I have a +5 MPG by doing that.
Take it easy on the gas pedal. Shift into higher gears as soon as possible. When approaching a traffic light that's yellow or red, slow down by taking your foot off the gas pedal and by the time it turns green, you can be in 2nd gear and rolling instead of taking off from a dead stop.
Maintain proper tire pressure.
Bigger and wider tires kill gas mileage.
Highway tread tires roll smoother and help mileage.
Don't be a speed demon......Jeeps aren't sports cars....slow down and enjoy the ride.
That's how I do it, and I average 24mpg combined.
When i was in high school has was $1 per gallon. Not to get political, but if we would start drilling our own oil instead of buying it from terrorist countries no one would care about mpg's.
But for now, drive it like you have sense and not like you stole it lol

Wow, when did Canada become a terrorist country?
The #1 country from which we import oil, is Canada. Its part of NAFTA, and why China has lobbyists in DC actively trying to break NAFTA (so that they could then be able to buy that Canadian oil).
Not trying to start shit but why do people buy these kinda vehicles and then start about MPG? Makes no sense to me. If you're worried about mileage you shouldn't be in a wrangler to begin with imo. It was the same on the forum on my previous car (mazda rx8) which gets worse mileage than a wrangler btw, they'd whine about it. Then buy something else. Gas is cheap in the United States so I laugh at it. (10 bucks a gallon in my native country) but why the questions about mpg? You know this going in. Anyway my .02
Maybe, just maybe, it could be that other people are not you? And different people have different desires, combinations of priorities, etc., such that they wanted a Wrangler for other reasons despite the MPG, but the MPG is still a concern and they would like to do whatever is possible to improve one aspect of their vehicle?
It amazes me how many people fail to comprehend that all people are different, have different goals, preferences, etc.
For anyone that has put bigger tires on Jeep: I can't understand why you didn't buy a farm tractor instead of a Jeep! They are built with big tires and the drivetrain to support them from the factory. Obviously, "big tires" must be the ONLY criteria you have for a vehicle, and there are other vehicles with bigger tires, so you are stoopid for buying a Wrangler!
Buy a watch. This way you can make sure you leave 10-15 minutes sooner for everything and this allows you to take your time and slow down, as noted in several posts above. Jeeps are UTILITY vehicles...they will never get any better MPG then they are getting right now...unless they make 'em outta balsa wood...Slow down: you'll live longer.
